Got my 9700 pro today and I have to say it is the biggest jump in video technology I've seen. I was running a Ti4400. Big difference in the current games I was playing and a huge difference in what it will do in the future. 3dMark 2001 Demo is incredible.

The drivers out of the box are excellent. Very easy to set. Set every thing to High and play at a minimum 1280 X 1024. I'm trying to test it on other games, but I can't stop playing Wolfenstein. It is like a new game.

Like I always say, it is never a good time to buy. I used to wait for the price to go down, but I missed out on a lot of fun.

Curley could you explain how Wolfenstein looks like a new game? Does it look different or something? Also do you have FSAA all the way up to 6x and AF all the way up to 16x? I am sure you do just asking. Could you post like one or two screenshots of RTCW to see how it looks different?

I don't want to get anyone upset, you have to understand that I buyevery new card that comes out. Like I've said in a different thread, this is our hobby. What I've done by buying this card is no different than my brother buying a new glof club because it claims it will get you 20 more yards. What I see is probably what I want to see but my friends validate my findings. If you have a Ti4400/4600, you would at this point in time be wasting your money. Since I was going to buy a 4600, I just added $100.00 more and got the Radeon.

To get to your questions, I have FSAA at 4x and AF at 16X, that is what the default setting is buy moving the slider all the way to the quality side.

The game doesn't look like medal of honor different, but I am playing at a higher res, you just kind of stop at different places in the game and ask yourself what looks so different, then you notice the guy you just shot has a crease in his forhead and not only can you see the part in his hair, but individual hairs, or you look to the right and see your shadow. I notice the detail in the guns, way different lighting, and you know how sometimes the machine gun seems to shoot kind of slow in a fight, the gun now seem to fire in fast forward.

I'll try to get some good res screen shots for you. It is running side by side with a Ti4600 (my neighbors), and unless you are a gamer, you will not notice as much in screen shots.

Curley cool seeing a crease in a person's forehead. Thats great detail for sure! Plus the individual hairs on their head. Must be nice for sure! Yep i understand. I sure wish i could get a ATI 9700 pro but thats what i say for all video cards lol. I am sure i will want a ATI R350 too hehe!

I like to play FS2002 with all the details/AA turned up and the 8500/XP1700+ combo just can't cut it. Lucky for me my company has a program with ATI where I can get 1 of any board per year for 1/2 the MSRP. So it looks like a $200 9700 Pro for me when they hit the ATI online store ;)

Could you get one for me?

BTW, I have four questions:
1: Will the 9700 Pro be good for my AthlonXP 1600+?
2: My mobo supports a maximum of 1400 Mhz (i.e. the regular speed of my AthlonXP 1600+), will I be able to overclock the processor to more than that?
3: What type of 9700 Pro should I get, and where?
4: I need 256 MB more DDR SD RAM, what type, and where should I buy?
See ya.

The 9700 provides so little "oomph" over my 4600, given how I use my PC, I'm waiting for the next generation of boards.

Im getting a Geforce3 Ti200 soon and that should be enough for my gaming needs until 2003. But after that, i am upgrading my processor and card. The 9700 is the definite choice, mostly because its price will be dropped until then.

My friend is gonna buy my Ti4600 from me and I'll be able to get a Radeon 9700Pro, but tell me where I can order from. I can't find stock anywhere even ATI's site and ATI is selling a bundle? NO THANKS!

Also why would ATI sell out of a card that they are producing? They can have quantities to ship to retail but have nothing to sell themselves?

After years of being a loyal Nvidia buyer (GF1 Pro, GF2 GTS, GF4 440mx) I will be going over to ATI on payday this Friday and buying a 9700 Pro. It looks like they have finally gotten their act together. As well, I feel that it is a good enough time to try out the other guys. :)

Is it Friday yet? No? damn... :(

My 8500 just started going goofy on me. It was my fault, I pressed down on the back-end of the card with the power hooked up, but not on. I think I static'd it or something.

Any way's, I'm going to buy a 9700 as soon as they drop some. I really liked my 8500 and had no issues with it, and it was more than plenty fast in all the games I play with all goodies cranked. I hope to pick-up a 9700 at the end of OCT.

I stepped over the line and stayed for about three days. Had the R8500 OEM and although the detial was great I had two crashes during that time. Could have would have done a dozen things such as reformatting the drive and starting clean but to me it wasn't worth it. As is, I deleted all nVidia drivers and referrences from the reg and it installed okay with the ATI drivers off the web.

I am sticking with my G4 TI4600's. Both my RIGS have them in and I am happy with them. The quality behind them are what I was looking for. The ATI has now come out with their new Graphic card and it seems to do very well. Congrats to them! I like what I have and their as stable as can be. Those of you that have the GeForce 2, and the GeForce 3, you also have a great card. I had a pentium III 500 with the Geforce 2 in and It was a GREAT card...Had no troubles and as stable as it was, overclocking that card was fun. I pushed that card with everything it had and to MY suprise, the card handled it very well. So, for all you that are looking at the ATI cards or the nVida cards, good luck in your choice! As for me, I am sticking with what I have because to me they're exactly what I was looking for!

Nope, they're too expensive around here.
I'll probabaly wait for NV30 to show up, as nVidia has always had lower prices here, and I expect NV30 to be the winner between it and R300(as it should be seeing it'll be ~3 months later than R300).
