Wait, what did you just write here? So, you were challenging my motives and level of scientific knowledge all this time just to come up with an essay that ends with "In short, this might actually work in some respect" ?
Boy, you are actually turning into a believer!
Mr. Rossi, is that you trolling us?

Again, I understand the explanations of the problems with the setup. But this is still interesting too me and I'll continue to follow up on it. Edit: I am not worked up over anything, quit saying that, at this point it is just...funny.

Its great how you continually go out of your way to prove just how much you do not understand.

I'll give you a hint. We can show that doing what they've done generates electricity, just not in the cold fusion manner (i.e. you can't get constant self-sustained energy production like he's claiming). There's a reason I spent most of that post pointing out there's a lot of ways he can make his device produce electricity but not actually do what people thinking this is cold fusion.

OK,
Don't you need some sort of a fuel to make the electricity? It has to come from a generator that is powered by something? If the only fuel required to power the generator is a little bit of powder, where is all that energy coming from? I mean you can call it whatever you want: cold fusion, LENR, magic, etc, etc

Suppose that we have a "black box" that runs only few grams of powder per day and it generates the same amount of energy that otherwise requires burning 100 barrels of oil, well, don't that proves the point?

I don't even have to know how he does it. The black box is a black box, so be it. All I care is how much fuel it uses, and if doesn't use oil and if it is not connected to a grid, then I am happy.

Edit: I appreciate you lowering down to my level to explain things. Thanks.

You are taking here about the chemical reactions. But what about the possibility of the changes on the nuclear level. No one claims that the energy comes from chemical processes. What he claims is something totally new.

Edit: Chemistry or Physics?
Chemistry is simply applied physics.

Perhaps I'm taking the wrong approach here. What you need to do is research the strong nuclear force. (I'll let you choose your own unbiased sources.) The strong nuclear force is understood BETTER than gravity. And, you can research the electromagnetic force. The electromagnetic force is understood BETTER than gravity. Look at the range of the strong nuclear force. Look at the force of repulsion between the nuclei of atoms. Calculate how much energy is needed to overcome this force before the nucleons are close enough that the strong nuclear force can hold them together.

It's never a good sign when researchers bypass peer review and go straight to the public with their "discovery".

It seems that he continues to reject independent investigation into his work. All of these habits are extremely suspicious and are very, very typical of fraudulent claims, or of a project that has failed--and he knows it--so he's getting the word out to the general public to generate interest, and hopefully some cash to recover loss.

Sounds familiar. In fact, this whole thread seems like déjà vu.

Here is a patent application as submitted by a NASA scientist (and sponsored by "USA as represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration") :
http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-...45".PGNR.&OS=DN/20110255645&RS=DN/20110255645

Deals with LENR aka "cold fusion", as published on October 20, 2011 :)

Just pointing out the news - hence some of you should start shaking your fists in anger at NASA. Make sure to make fun of them, tell them that they "Don't understand" and "real science" does not allow for LENR.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. From my understanding of the Wired article, the demonstrations in no way constitute extraordinary evidence for what is a very extraordinary claim.

I agree and that is why I am on the fence on that one. However there seems to be a lot of recent activity re: LERN topic

After Pons and Fleischmann (see, scientists can do it too!) 'cold fusion' has kind of become dirtied. I don't know whether it is theoretically possible or not, but too many people dismiss it out of hand, and too many people jump to it automatically instead of evaluating the evidence of demonstrations, trials, and replications by others.

"Andrea Rossi, an engineer who has captured the attention of the scientific world with two successful tests of his “E-Cat” cold fusion reactor, arrived at the State House on Tuesday morning for two days of meetings with government officials and representatives of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Massachusetts and Northeastern University."

According to State Senator Bruce Tarr

http://www.tarrtalk.com/2011/11/cold-fusion-inventor-comes-to-boston.html

IMO, some of you should start shaking your fists in anger at Mr. Tarr for hosting AND writing about such a fraud...

Perhaps we would if we labored (as you seem to) under the false impression that the opinions of politicians like Mr. Tarr on matters of science actually meant anything! :D

You're showing yourself to be a Rossi fanboy again!

But, he's just reporting it! Leave adlep alone! *cries, mascara runs*

The best part is that he thinks people would somehow have a problem if LENR worked out. As pointed out, if it did, then everybody would win.

I'd say I'm curious why he's not "just reporting" on all the other fusion research being done, but I'm not. :D

Just pointing out that you don't have a clue what any of that actually means. :D

I'm loving your passive aggressive whining though. :D

IMO you should actually spend some time learning about this stuff instead of "just reporting" it so then we might be able to have an actual discussion. If you spent half the time you do copy-pasting links that cold fusion blogs provide then you might actually have some basic scientific understanding. You even "report" in a stupid half-assed manner.

No need to name call here. You can have your argument/discussion with the OP without personal attacks.

Keep digging and going personal...U mad bro?

Anyhow, the article about Rossi over at the Boston Globe...
http://bostonglobe.com/business/201...cold-fusion/w7FgGyI9Zx432chxuD5BEL/story.html

Make sure to send the Boston Globe an email with what you just wrote me above...
Lol...
But, please do post more.
Edit: Whats wrong with me posting this? The worst case scenario the Rossi's saga provides for an entertaining story - now available to AT readers because these "stupid half-assed" links that I am including in my updates. Again no worst than talking about chicks or posting memes?

You want me to have a discussion with you now? You have destroyed this thread long time ago, it is now impossible to have any kind of exchange thanks to your personal attacks. I've asked mods to keep you away from this thread and I guess it didn't work. Time and time again you come over and thread crap. At first you had problems with links. Then with me. Then some of the links that I am posting became OK I guess, but the problem is still with me and with my level of scientific understating.

Just pointing out that you don't have a clue what any of that actually means. :D

How about living by example? Take the NASA patent link and rather than calling me passive aggressive with NO clue, add something positive to discussion? No? I love how you start changing the story too. Now you want me to start pointing out all activities done in the LENR field even though it is WAY beyond the scope of this thread.

Digging? Going personal? So, you openly admit you're ignorant, but its a personal attack for pointing it out? Where did I get personal? When I pointed out your recent history on the forums of arguing with people that know more than you? Of course, I'm actually confused, in the post I got cited for, I didn't call you stupid, I called the manner in which you're "reporting" stupid (and half-assed).

Oh yes, I'm so mad. Didn't you see my smilies, you turned me into the Incredible Hulk.:biggrin::biggrin:

Now, Bruce Banner would be someone worth discussing this stuff with. Actually, there's some striking similarities between the Hulk and this. I wonder, does the eCat expand and turn green to let you know its going "cold fusion" (you know like the Coors mountains)?

Ok, so you tried to get the mods to keep me away, but want me to keep posting? I'd call you an idiot, but you'll run to the mods and have them give me an infraction for it.

Change the story? You mean like how you went from trying to arguing about stuff you didn't know about (and telling people to suck your balls, funny the mods missed that, probably because other people don't go crying to them) to "just reporting". I already tried discussing it, and you just twisted it into some ignorant response and then started whining after I corrected you. I said fusion, not LENR.

Wow, just wow, whatever, just enjoy the links. I will keep posting what I find and there is nothing you can do about it. I don't think that there is anything else you could add to the discussion. Please move on, find someone else to troll.

Edit: There is this Greek company called Defkalion. They claim that they used to work with Rossi but since then they have discovered his secret and came up with their own version of the device:
