I'm thinking the same thing. I've got a feeling that the Egg had so much $ changing hands in this next to last weekend before Xmas that they didn't get around to "seeing" that they received my $. I'm certain that things will be squared away come Monday. However, it's still annoying that I can't spend this $ over at flickerdown.com instead till the $ comes back to me. Unfortunately, I discovered Dave after this problem:|

Dave here I come:D

No idea how long it will take to get through his queue, though.

well, it varies. for example, i'm getting more 148s this week than i have demand. i've also got more 170s and 146s this week. people drop out all the time and i fulfill them as fast as i can.

the faster i blow out of stock, the faster i re-order.

Well, seems everyone is doing the "so and so for forum mod", I have much bigger plans than that.

And it was a great book.

I just got off the phone with an AMD rep, since I needed to RMA my quirky 146 that I never got to play with, and he told me the best he could do was put me on a waiting list for exchange, because he didn't have any BNBOX Opterons left in inventory, and there was no ETA on when more would be coming.

Sucks :(

I've got 50 more 146's coming in later this week/early next week (quite a surprise, and a good one to boot). If you want to do an exchange through us now, I'll hook you up.

Retail. Not sure on steppings or anything yet, and we aren't doing pre-orders right now (that just causes way too much headache). I'm expecting them early next week, maybe late this week... I know my 144's are coming in on Monday (thus available Tuesday) but the 146's are still up in the air.

The 2 Opteron's I own:

146 CABYE 0540 FPMW...2900 MHz @ stock volts @ 47C max temp in 72F ambient with XP-90
146 CAB2E 0540 FPMW...2850 MHz @ stock volts @ 50C max temp in 72F ambient with XP-90

Stock coolers probably good to about 2.8, but noisy.....expect to add another $50-$60 to get the best air cooling (Thermalright 120's or TT BigTyphoon).

XP-90 from SVC is still the best bang for buck....$28

Nice chart: http://www.systemcooling.com/images/rev.../Thermalright_XP-90C/temp_chart_lg.gif

"Also, those Opteron babies were bad-boys when it comes to cooling, working at 2.7-2.9 GHz with air-cooling - at zero problems, with a lower operating temperature than default-clocked Pentium D 840."

really? with air-cooling i'm assuming that's not with a stock HSF.

THeInq sucks.

?Socket 939 AMD Opteron 100 Series processors are in production. AMD will continue to produce Opteron 100 Series processors with ECC unbuffered memory support in 2006, and we will adjust production volumes as needed to supply our server and workstation customers,? said Brett Jacobs, a spokesman for AMD.

It doesn't mention them selling retail for us entheusiest. He may have just said server and workstation customers cause thats what their aimed toward, but the HAVE to know that most of them are being bought by people like us for our personal rigs.

We'll have to wait and see if they stop putting them on the shelves and sell to server and workstation makers, or leave them out for us too.

Yeah along with the rumor that they were going to stop selling OEM and Retail 939 Opterons, their was a rumor that they where going to EoL the whole 939 opty tree. That is false, but I don't like the fact that they are killing off the retail sales, what they need to do is raise the cost to be closer or actually cost more then their closest A64 counterpart, that would fix their issue quick, and would still let people who wanted them for their hand built Workstations buy them.

Spot on. XP-90 the best bang for the bucks, SI-120/Big Typhoon for the best performance. Oh and add Zalman for quietness/efficiency.

I had heard good things regarding the Gigabyte G-Power Pro, but you guys recommend the Thermalright XP90 with a variable Panaflo 90mm for someone looking for a stable, mild OC ??

Gigabyte G-Power Pro review

My only concern with the XP-90 is getting the right fan for it, as I am using a default setup now with no OC and I much prefer an adjustable fan such as my Tt Volcano 12

The BX models have rpm sensing. I use Speedfan 4.27 to control it and it runs 1500rpm idle and is set to ramp up at 47C to it's full speed of 2850rpm. Works well for me.....

I've used that same combo (although with the medium speed Panaflo) for a couple rigs I've built and they worked great. Best bang for the buck in my opinion.
