Possible Overheating Problem w/4200

I have a gainward geforce4 ti 4200, the 64mb version, and when i'm playing games or even just surfing the web my computer screen turns a certain color or colors, usually green or yellow. It's hard to explain but it doesn't necessarily freeze but it gets really slow and the screen is made up of a bunch of squares usually different shades of green or yellow. I originally would have thought this was a driver problem or a conflict somewhere but the odd thing is if you press the reset button it stays that color with the squares and everything if you turn the computer off and back on it works fine. I am starting to think by heatsink/fan is not sitting right and causing the core to overheat but it wouldn't overheat while I was on the internet. Any suggestions?

Sometimes I overclock the card but usually its not. I'm going to try to underclock it to see if it still happens. I have a enlight 340 watt psu

I have a Palit 4200 128mb and I have the same problem occasionally. Also, when booting the ASCII characters are pretty messed up - they get replaced with weird ones. I have to reboot a few times to fix it. I am not overclocking at all. I never had this problem with my previous video card.

cabana, do you have weird colors too, what drivers are you using i'm using the 30.82. I have figured out it happens whether I'm overclocking or not. I think it must be a driver problem but i'm still not 100% sure.

Yeah, 30.82 is what I'm using. I have a floor fan pointing at my computer now, it seems to be keeping it cool enough. 🙁

lately the problem seems to be getting worse. Every time I play a game it seems to happen, sometimes 30 seconds into it. I think when new official det's are released I will format and do a clean install.

I notice it mostly when just using Windows. The boxes start slowly, but soon enough they're covering the entire screen.

My boxes appear all at once and sometimes I can still see the screen moving for about 10 seconds but then it just freezes but it has only happened in a game for me.

All this talk about Gainward, does anyone else at all own a Palit card? It's a reference design and looks just like the Gainward basically...
