The Half-Life 2 story sucked balls. It’s like those people that constantly talk but never actually say anything.

I thought we were finally going to get some answers in EP2. But no, Benson decided he needed a cup of tea instead.

They should just outsource it - get someone like Gearbox to make it.

Gearbox? Do you hate Half Life that much?

I don't think it was money that kept them from making Half Life 3. For years they were already paying the people who could make it and the hype alone would generate a ton of initial sales. I suspect it has more to do with Valve knowing the game would not be groundbreaking and, because of how long it has been, very anticlimatic. Chances are the game would be slammed because it would never live up to the expectations people have created. I imagine the gaming blogs would have a field day tearing it apart to generate hits if the game was anything but excellent.

Do single player FPS games even sell that well today? Seems like all the big named ones (Bioshock, Deus Ex, etc.) all sold below expectations. There also doesn't seem to be any single player FPS games on Steam's top 100 played games.

I remember after HL2 came out, in an interview, Gaben stated that making HL2 took a toll on the team and it would be a 'very, very long time' before they made another full-on AAA game, they went with the episodic model after that, then I guess discovered digital distribution cuts and haven't looked back.

I felt the same way, lot of promise but no real sense of progress. Like Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series became, but unlike those books, not quite good enough to make going nowhere worth the trip. I also thought some of the missions or sections went on too long. I got really tired of driving the buggy or boat before that leg was over. However, I believe we are a cult of two.
