What, that made sense?

Well it made more sense than your usual banter but to say that any religion is going to get absorbed by another is impossible. Jews, muslims, hindu's (?) and the other asian religions/philosophies have been around about 4000 years... Christainity started roughly 1970 years ago (jesus did his preaching when he was in late 20's to 30's i believe)... many people abandoned their previous belief structure to accept Christianity.

Now-a-days people tend to stick to whatever religion was handed to them. Unless god or countries make an effort to sway people one way or the other there will never be a big difference in any religions numbers...accept if they do it more :)

LilBlinbBlahIce - Definition #1 fits the description of a Christian missionary quite well. Of course it doesn't fit your view of one, because you don't know any. Do you people really hate Christians that bad. Suppose I made the same comments " I hear Missionaries taste great if the right seasoning is added! " about blacks, or Asians or any other group of people. Why the hatred for something you know nothing about.

Billy Graham makes 1 unfortunate remark 30 years ago and people are still screaming. Any of you want to be scrutinized that hard?

I am not saying that defenition 1 doesn't fit most missionaries. We were talking about Falwell, so in that regard, def. 2 seems more appropriate. Graham might have made a remark 30 years ago, but Falwell made many anti-Islamic remarks recently, so I'm not sure how happy Muslims would be if his org. came into their country when they know how he feels about them and has said that it is his duty to spread the word of the Lord's son.

LilBlinbBlahIce - Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this topic about Christian missionaries? Or do you just want to bash Falwell? And assume Christian missionaries are just like him?

I don't care if they go over and get them killed... it's their choice. What i do take offense at is their going over there to convert people because they think their religion is superior.

Trezza, it's always an interesting experience to get ridiculed by somebody like you who seems at the same time ignorant of facts. How many Jews are there in the world? Do a google search on 'fastest growing religion' What's around and what's significant are two different things. And Islam does not proselytize.

No, hes just the quintasential example of the type of missionary work we do not need in Iraq, and I in no way intentionally insinuated that all missionaries are like him.

Tell us more.

I don't have any proof, but I have personally never seen or heard of Muslim missionaries, but that's not to say they don't exist. However, Islam remains the world's fastest growing religion, and it is not due solely to higher birth rates among Muslims, it also has one of the highest conversion rates. It seams as though people who convert to Islam do so on their own accord and seek the knowledge for themselves.

That's exactly what you do insinuate. You speak of no other missionary work.

Moralpanic- And you think your religion is not superior?

That's because I was trying to point out what would make this a bad idea. If it was a good idea, there would be no debate, we would all agree it was the right thing and that would be that. It's the few bad apples that give the tree a bad reputation. The same way the actions of a few so called Muslims caused your average Joe to perceive all Muslims as being terrorists, the actions of a few ill intentioned missionaries will cause your average Ahmed to think all missionaries are trying to convert all Muslims, and the last thing we need is more fuel for the "crusade against Islam" argument.

So it's o.k. for me to percieve all Muslims as bad? Because of a few bad ones? That's what you do with Christians!
