The cats are probably involved, somehow.

Supposed to be sleeping, instead i'm watching facebook live video of a group of guys who captured a tank

So what exactly happens if a "NATO" member, country's military has a coup ?

I'm not too familiar with NATO and the finer details of how it works.

It will be interesting. Turkey is one of the US's biggest allies in the area. We have a joint US airbase there with nuclear weapons. So far, the base and US soldiers have not been affected.

It's usually best not to mess with US nuclear weapons.
If you don't want your entire country to glow in the dark.

Right now it seems nobody really has a clear picture of what is going on and who exactly has the upper hand. Erdogan wants to rule with absolute power, he's destroyed the free media and political opposition. Wouldn't be the worst thing for the military to take him out and clean house. Then again, military coups are usually not a good substitute for democracy.

Will be interesting to see how it shakes out, but it appears that the coup has failed and Erdogan will be even more ruthless and empowered to continue destroying the country.

Well just now on cnn, mention of rumors that it was a 'fake' coup. What a mess.

Unless something changes it wasn't a well organized one, at the least.

The Turkish government is going to hang these coup d'etat MOFOs. I can almost guarantee it. If they are lucky they may get 30+ years in a shity prison.

Turkey is no joke. They have nukes and a VERY powerful military thanks to us giving them their military shit. To make matters worse they are part of NATO. I would personally like to see Turkey not part of NATO.

Well, they have American nukes, which can't be activated without US authority.

It sounds like the coup has failed and is mostly over.

Should these reports be true, the chances of civil war rapidly diminish. Much as I despise Erdogan, such violence would have made matters much worse.
