I agree about exhausting air out of the back, but the 7800 runs cooler than the 6800 does. Is 55C very hot to you?

Yes, especially since thats my idle temp. It gets into the 80's while gaming, thats hot no matter how you look at it. I would rather dump that hot air out the back, than have it blow around inside of my case.

I'm talking about under load. My 7800's idle in the low 40's, with no special cooling, and under load, they're in that 55C range.

You would be the only person Ive seen to report such a temp. All I have seen were high 70's, to mid 80's.

edit, link and quote;

While these cards are single slot, they still run very hot. At idle, the GPU core was about 50C. Under full load, we saw the GPU temperature rise to 80c. The fan never spun up to its full RPM, however. We have our video cards in an open desktop scenario so it is not enclosed in a case. With temperatures this high, you will want to be sure to have very good case cooling.

Im not saying you're lying, but since you have two cards, I cant imagine it would be cooler than their findings. Especially since they do reviews on just hardware thats not inside a case, and has open air around it. Perhaps you just got some magic cards..

Get a better case :p

I idle around 45C and during games around 65C (CM-Stacker) with my 6800U

(in my Antec Sonata it was 20C higher both ways)

I have a great case, much better than yours. :) I do only have two case fans though, both 120mm, both exhausting. Other reviews show the same temps I am getting, as well as other posters. 55c is the highest I have seen mine idle, normally its about 50c.

I have a BFG version though, so its overclocked. BUt looking at Ronins sig, his are overclocked too. Its just hard to believe his only get to 55c, being overclocked and having two of them. FS's numbers show having two cards, makes the master a lot hotter.

My previous card idled at 35-38c, and full load was 73c. Using rthdribl to put it under load. What are you using? You arent just exiting a game and checking are you?

I won't argue that the master card is hotter (2-3C warmer), but not to the temps that you're talking about. Ambient room temperature plays a huge part in things (mine is generally around 68F), and I have excellent air flow through my case. Review sites don't generally spend a lot of time configuring their systems as optimally as they could be when it comes to something like that.

Might just have power connector close to the exhuast fan, so you can plug it into a wall wart and into the wall like the voodoo5 6000.

Look at the rear view and you can see the six solder points for the PCIe power connector.

68F is pretty cool. Im in the den, which is on the farthest from the AC unit, and its generally a little warmer in here because of that. And the fact that we have multiple PC's a bigscreen, and other heat generating parts in here doesnt help. Probably about 73-74F.

Review sites dont configure cases for video card reviews hardly at all. They're mostly on a open table, with no case whatsoever.

But as I said, Im not calling you a liar. I just dont see how you get 55c under load, with two cards. When I have yet to see a review get anywhere close to that with one card. As I said earlier... perhaps you got some magic cards!

But to get back on topic... I sure hope that does exhaust hot air out the back. Or Artic Cooling hurries up and get a NV silencer that fits these 7800's. Im sure these four sticks of ram running 3.5v under the card isnt helping matters any. They are hot.

I'm with you on AC getting a new rev out. I never mind funneling more hot air out of my case. :)

Here is my case..

Pretty clean wire management

Some serious heat creators

As I said, that ram runs at 3.5 each, and they are VERY hot. Active cooling is a requirement, or the warranty is void. So is 3.3-3.5v, which only DFI can do without the OCZ booster, or volt modding.

Two things I want, that are not out yet are, AC's new cooler for my 7800GTX, and Zalmans new CPU cooler, which doesnt blow down on the CPU, but rather to the side. So it will push the air from left to right, almost directly to the back 120mm exhause. Combine that with the Silencer on the 7800GTX blowing the hot air out, and the overall case temp should lower a lot.

Very neat, and a very LARGE case I might add. I almost didn't realize your mobo was tucked away on the top right of the photo.

Its almost too big. Makes wire managment harder. But I do like how it has a seperate area for the PSU and HD's. Ive only got 3 HD's (about 800gigs).. but can fit 12 down there.. and 8 optical drives if I wanted.

My 6th Lian-Li, and probably my favorite.

The NV Silencer 5 should fit the 7800 GTX minus cooling the RAM on the back of the card.
