Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers

I'm not really sure what to make of this.

My instinct tells me that this only serves to reinforce my belief that the folks screaming the loudest about "family values" tend to be the most hypocritical when it comes to their own values. Furthermore, it backs my feeling that those who act holier-than-thou, rarely are. And finally, it reminds me of homophobic gay-bashing GOP politicians and bible-pounding gay-hating preachers who turn out to enjoy a good ass-pounding from their fellow man every so often.

But then, I could be painting with an extremely broad brush here . . .

Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers
8 of Top 10 Porn-Consuming States Voted Republican in 2008 Presidential Election

Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography.

A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states.

"When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School.

However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.

"Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Edelman says.

For the record, I have nothing against porn and nothing against those who engage in it or consume it.

Heh.

I would really like to listen in on the conversation when the pollster asks about political affiliation and porn consumption in the same interview. 🙂

Even more confusing, an officially atheist state that is against pornography: Link

Pornography is illegal in China

You're right - that's quite baffling. Although, I can somewhat imagine folks designing non-religious arguments against porn. Perhaps believing that it degrades women, or something along those lines...

Actually the democrats move from places like California and New York to Red states to try to change the vote population balance. Delaware is a prime example of this, used to be Red, now blue. It's the democrats that are consuming the porn.

😕 I know when the democrats call me up I will move to wherever they need me 😕

Its funny to see all of the porn mega-stores along the highways when you cross the south.

and for every porn mega-store there is a billboard less than a mile away which says:

"Jesus died for your sins" or "Jesus loves EVERY child" with a picture of a fetus.

😛

China is an athiest state as a power consolidating move. Religion is quite common and widespread to this day.

Wait, you think there is an effort underway by Democrats to spread out through the country and shift red states to blue?

Why not? You can get the government to pay for the house.

People pay for porn? haha.

Anyway, the universal truth is that a lot of people engage in habits that are bad for their lives and relationships and porn is certainly no exception, even among those who have no hesitation calling themselves Christians.

That is called the "Forbidden Fruit Syndrome" , we can also add that conservative states have the most "in the closet self-hating gays".

Is something wrong with my sarcasm meter?

Or Liberals are not as jaded as the Conservatives that need the for-pay hard-core porn to get off? 😉x2

Did you read the article? They didn't ask political affiliation.

Anyway, the Mormons seem to have a mortal lock on the porn channel. 🙂 Good for them. With 5 wives, I'd be watching porn too. 🙂

I actually saw that combo in Orlando, on Orange Blossom Trail! LOL. There are about 20 churches within 2 miles of the place too. Shameful, I say, damned shameful. 🙂

So conservative states have the highest rate of divorce and also highest rate of porn consumption. Maybe conservatives aren't exactly morally upright citizens they claim they be.
