if I had to take a total unsubstantiated guess, I'd guess that he's probably suffering from an onset of dementia or Alzheimer's and wanted to resign while he's still mentally capable of doing so. but I'm sure they'll keep it totally hush-hush, wheel him off to some private retirement residence, and we'll never know.

canonically, there's nothing that can be done if a Pope becomes mentally impaired. he cannot be forced out of office.

Listened to news feeds go on and on ablout how wonderful and brave he is for stepping down due to old age and inability to perform duties.

What does that say about last Pope?

JP2 died at a younger age than Benedict is now.

(that said, he was a pretty flawed Pope in many ways and probably gets a lot of undue love because he was a friendly, cute old grandpa)

My wife once ushered me away before he came out to give mass in St. Peter's square before I something that I'd do something in jest that I'd regret and the Swiss Guard came down upon me or as a Jew I'd combust.......

So what do you call someone who has sex with a member of the same sex? 😕

Note, I think the same issue exists in the black community, which is why they use the term "men have sex with men (MSM)" when referring to HIV statistics. For obvious reasons a gay priest is likely to not identify as homosexual.

It is the fact that they are preying on children that become intolerable.

An adult male is capable of knowing what he wants without undo influence of an authority figure.
