@FelixDeCat it's Leo XIV not Leo IV

Leo IV passed away in 855AD.. 1270 years ago!
Forgot to put my readers on.

While it would be fun to live in 855 AD for a while, we would have to all gather in person at a pub, drink mead and tell tales.

News would only be regional. We might only now be finding out Pope Francis passed away.

MAGATS once again showing their stupidity. As if the Pope is supposed to be America first
Considering the election of an American pope was deemed highly unlikely in the first place, I guess some people will never be satisfied. But then considering there are 8 billion of us, opinions were bound to vary. I was listening to the Catholic channel and so many people were singing his praises the day he became pope from people who knew him or could relate.

You would also probably be teeming with intestinal parasites and if you have any children around 1/3rd of them would be dead.

The past really sucked!

True, but at least you could have a cool name like, Æthelwulf.. :)

Life expectancy 42 years.
No heating
No education
No habeus corpus
No rights
Human Sacrifice
Plague, Persecutions and Pogroms everywhere
And the Great Heathen Army crushing Æthelwulf

That is life in the dark ages!

I thought it was the agenda for Trump's third term.
Trump's third term, neo-feudalism, same thing.

The billionaire's children will all be vaxxed and taking prescription medications while the serfs use bitcoin to purchase plastic food from the Amazon company town they work for and live in. At least until AI and robots make serfs superfluous, then it'll just be mining and foreign wars to preserve as much arable land as possible for Musk's Legion of bioengineered children/meatshields/surrogate bodies.

Unless us future serfs are willing to stop it.

In 855 around here, it would just be indigenous people that never heard of Popes, Christianity, or Pubs.

It might have been interesting to explore the wilderness. Although days of walking through wild, uncut fields of dense grassland might have been tiring.

A complete tangent from the thread topic, but I often find myself thinking about that, when going for long urban walks. Always find myself wondering what it would have looked like to walk the same route, 100, 500, 1000 years ago. Especially so here, where one usually stumbles upon bits of parkland or commons or undeveloped woods (that always turn out to be surviving remnants of the huge forest that used to encompass the entire area before it was swallowed up by the city in the course of the last few centuries).

I wish someone or some organisation would create some sort of computer walkthrough model of the area (using something akin to the Crysis or Elder Scrolls engine? But minus the shooting or sword-play) that would give an accurate "archeologist/historian's best guess" representation of what it all looked like at specific points in the past. Be a big project to do accurately, and wouldn't be much of a 'game', so don't know who would create such a thing.

This. The ignorance of calling the pope "woke" is just embarassing. Laura Loomer (I dont know how this idiot seems to have so much pull in the Trump admin) said:
Needless to say, the gays found this iconic.

Cue the “Pink Pony Club” jokes…

YMCA also works!

Woke Marxist Pope is the gift that keeps on giving.
The ignorance of what Christ actually taught for this woman to say this is absolutely mindboggling.

How the religious right was co-opted by corporations into being about unfettered capitalism, instead of about Jesus, to the point that they happily line up behind an Atheist like Elon Musk while he destroys democracy.

Would Jesus be closer to woke/socialist
anti-woke/capitalist?

Assuming the definition of woke stolen by the right and popularized

It's funny how the 'love everyone and be nice to the poor' guys are now the fake Christians while the people celebrating sending people to gulags without trial are the real ones.
Its ultra hypocritical. Mike Johnson is among the worst of them, applauding Trumps every move while claiming to be some kind of fundamentalist evangelical Christian.
