Just because some people are not as kind to animals as others does not make it right. Not swerving to avoid an animal and save your life is one thing. But delibrately taking somethings life for the joy it brings you is sick and cruel. If you don't hit them on purpose, fine, then I have no beef with you.

What if you were in the middle of the road, you would want me to swerve to miss you right?

as a pedestrian having the right of way I'd hope they'd either swerve and miss or two.... kill me... Because i'd sue the living crap out of them if anything happened to me [edit](i.e. - paralysis/broken bones)[/edit]. But I'm a citizen of the United states and there are laws to protect me... not animals. Like I said... I'm not jeopardizing my life to save an animals life by swerving into oncoming traffic.

we all die, perhaps not tomorrow, or under the tires of a car, but sometime, somewhere, the sissors will cut us, just like they have cut those before us and those after. Grasp your moments for all you can... they shall be no more

I have 3 stories to share in relation with the topic here:

1) About two years ago or so, I saw this squirrel crossing the street. It was deciding whether to go or not, changing its mind several times. Then finally, it decides to cross. As it was in the middle of the street, this nice, new, HOT-ROD RED colored Chevy Camaro Z28 comes driving along really fast. I was thinking to myself, "Uh oh, this squirrel is gonna get crushed!" Well, somehow, i don't know how, the car drove perfectly over the squirrel, without touching the squirrel at all! It ended up being in between both wheels as the car drove over it. You should have seen it. The squirrel rolled and tumbled over like 4-6 times since the car was going so fast, hehe. Then, once the squirrel got his balance, he just went about crossing the road again (and he made it over safely too :) ).

2) As I was driving to work yesterday, I something really big, red, and furry in the middle of the road. As I got closer, I noticed that it was a deer that had been run over several times, and I had to swerve to my right as to not run over it again. I was like, "boy was that close!".

3) I was coming home one night and was driving on the highway. I was in the left hand lane of a two-lane road. As I was driving, I noticed these two eyes flashing back at me. I suddenly realized that it was from the head of a deer that had been hit, and was just lying there. I had to really swerve to my right as to avoid running over it. Boy did that get my heart going for a second! The problem was that while it was off on the shoulder, its head was over and in the lane a good bit. By the next day, the deer was gone.

I was driving with my brother once and we saw a chipmunk running across the road. I said to my brother "Hey! Should I hit the chipmunk?" (as a joke, I swear!)

The chipmunk was most of the way across, but to be safe I began to move AWAY from where the chipmunk was. At the last moment the critter decided to turn around and run back and ran right under my tire! :(

I didn't have a chance to avoid it because of its sudden change in direction, but remember my joke to my brother?

He was horrified, thinking that I HAD hit it intentionally! Argh! It must have looked terrible!

:(  :(

It was an accident - I felt terrible, especially with my joke (and that my brother thought it was on purpose!)

I figured I'd share my funny story too...

I've been broadsided Three times! by deer.... just doing my driving thing... once with my rents, once with a friend of mine, and once on a ski trip with my churches youth group... so here's one of the stories....

My friend Ian and I where about a half mile from my house... and Ian starts laughing and pointed out the window to an open field and said.. "look at that deer run across that field... you're gonna hit it" (this is the kid that encourages me to hit things as we drive by them...) The thing looked a good 100 yards away and it was just one deer sprinting like hell to the corn field on the other side of the road... I tried to do my mental math and I figured we where going about 60 and all that other stuff... failing miserably to calculate what 2 + 2 equals I quickly gave up... Anyways... I was just getting past the field and BOOM!... I thought for sure we had blown a tire or something... I was like damn.. cuz I had just changed one of the tires the day before... So I pull over.. and I get out of the car cursing and whatnot... I walk around our Truck and all tires are fine... I look behind us.. and there is the damn deer in the middle of the road... layin' down... I was like.. U stupid POS... You hit the back side of my expedition... the thing started moving and stumbled to the other side of the road with disorientation... I didn't think that this was a frequent thing.. but this has happened to me 3 times!!!! maybe Deer are attracted to me.... hehe... Bring it on rudolph... oo-ahhh!
