Argh! I feel bad about the little thing. We have a large yard and the squirrels are like pets here. This one, presumably a female has been working for a month packing stuff up a tree and making a nest and probably going to have babies in the spring. My wife was just stepping off the porch and saw the squirrel coming across to her tree. Just then a car with 2 young guys comes flying down the street, going at least 50MPH, if not more, swerves to the shoulder and nails the squirrel.
She was upset and got in her car and chased them about 3 blks to the next light, where they were laughing their asses off. Some people have no conscience! :(

they aimed for it... :(

that sure is in poor taste. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! Seriously though, what can you do about punks like that? (I think ALF was in the car.)

I once saw a squirrel grab a powerline and explode into 2 pieces. One piece stuck to the pole and the other fell to the ground. The piece on the ground was black on the inside.

I'm an animal lover myself. My girl is a veterinary assistant so we see a lot of heartbreaking stuff happen due to the ignorance of our fellow humans.

I don't personally swerve to hit squirrels because I don't think that it is safe driving, but I can't say I feel too much remorse when I see a dead one on the side of the road. They are just rodents with fuzzy tales.

That is so sad ... I'm the kind of person that until I was 14 would cry everytime I saw a dead animal on the road ... I still get upset by it ... the fact that these boys were so heartless as to aim for it ... well it doesnt say much for them ... sorry that your wife had to see that ...

If you feel so bad about someone else killing a squirrel, just think about all the ones you might have driven over without even knowing it. Roadkill is just the price of having roads.

Even if you are a heartless dick why would you risk wrecking your car to kill a squirrel?

People are stupid

Hey Veryape, I used to be a veterinary technician. I'm a wildlife rehabber, too.

That was my favorite job ever...

I ended up bringing home all the stray animals that got left at the hospital, though.

One day, I am going to have my own private animal shelter.

:)

edit: Sweetrobin, I used to say a prayer for each dead animal I saw on the road when I was a kid. I used to cry my eyes out every time...

Was there enough left to eat? They usually don't make a big meal as it is, but when sqwooshed the pickins get really slim.

snow patrol...

:Q:D

Actually, I rented a house once and found some skinned squirrel bodies that had been defrosting in the freezer for a few days.

At first, I thought they were some kind of poultry... but then I noticed the front and hind quarters...

:disgust:

Hey Isla, my wife is a vet.

I love squirrels, we raised about 7 this summer. It's sad to see them crushed by cars, but the sad truth is they aren't too bright when it comes to big shiny things.

Ah, 64bitloopy, your wife must be a very special lady. :) I have the utmost respect and admiration for her and her peers.

Yes, squirrels are not so bright, but they are neat little things. I think rats are smarter, but they are not as charming.

I know this: I would much rather work with animals than people! I may go back to it one day, but for now I have a house full of monkeys to raise.

;)

ha... not to be a poor sport or anything or to crap this thread... but I don't live in a city... I live in a country area.. My friends and I do that all the time... we've gone for anything the size of frogs up to Deer and sometimes Pedestrians... (never hit a deer or pedestrian... on purpose... or on accident) But we try to frighten them.... We've nailed some possums... Rabbits... squirells... chipmunks... skunks... Frogs... Toads.... Porcupines... and Turkeys... Man... Turkeys are like hitting bowling balls.. you should have seen what that did to my friends car... eh... we don't do it often... and when we do we usually don't hit whatever we go for... but when we're driving around in the country... there isn't much to do... we get bored and do stupid stuff... it's not like we have a shortage of squirells in the country... they aren't an endangered species(sp?)...
