How did "some mother fucker" get into Hank's house?

Or is this a case of an irresponsible owner who lets his pet roam the neighborhood with no thought for his safety?

That. Since it's unlikely some contract killer got out his sniper BB rifle and whacked Hank as he playfully scampered along the mantle over the fireplace, it's highly likely that Hank was out preying on innocent birds. Keeping you pet safely on your own property would eliminate this sort of thing.

I love cats... but not when they're from other owners and roaming in my yard (and crapping all over it). I've thought about using my paintball gun but that's too loud.

Maybe it just got loose, maybe it's let out regularly. Neither justify shooting it.

I agree pet owners who let their animals (almost always cats) are putting their animals at dangerous risks and can be nuisances to the neighborhood but there are better ways to handle that problem.

What makes your cat more worthy of life than the birds and animals in my yard? I enjoy watching them and feed them. They have enough of a hard life surviving with how devastating man has been to their environment. Then you get these damn cats that destroy all the wildlife and kill hundreds of animals. One dead cat can save hundreds of others lives. Ones that we actually need.

That being said I just scare them away. I wouldn't want to kill a cat either. And it's not worth getting into a battle with neighbors. And if you ask them to keep their cat off your property they flip out like you're some freak. Then they all hate you. Cat owners are freaking weirdos. Keeps the damn things on YOUR property.

I'm tempted though to catch them and turn them into another towns humane society.

I have a neighbor cat that hangs out in the yard sometimes. Doesn't bother me. It is fed well and I guess it gets bored. No big deal.

is this serious?
Most people let their cats out, especially in rural areas.
It's dangerous mainly because of cars, but no one expects someone to shoot his cat since it's forbidden and doesn't happen accidentally.

Cats are not dogs, they don't stay on the property.
Think of them the same way you think about martens, except that cats don't shit on your doorstep while martens do it on purpose every night.

I don't mind cats running around nearly as much as I do dogs. We have 3 little dogs near me that the owners let run loose all of the time. If I weren't such a nice guy...

Either way I'm not really an animal lover, and I have no idea why people want to own one other than for agricultural purposes.

And when did this become acceptable? They stay on your property if you have a high enough fence. If you don't have means to keep it on your property then don't let them out of your house. Your cat is not a neighborhood community cat. My yard is not it's toilet. My yard is not it's hunting grounds or food bowl. It's YOUR cat YOU take care of it and keep in in YOUR yard.

If someone had a horse with no fence and let it crap on your yard and eat from your yard you'd be like what the hell man??

Could have been in the enclosed back yard.

Doubtful as most fences will not hold in a cat anyway.

Pets belong inside only when unsupervised.

When I worked for a vet's office many cats and dogs that were even partially outside would show tons of BB's on X-ray.

The problem is some cats do crap on peoples doorsteps, in their garages, etc and that creates the hostility against them.

I have my own personal cats and they are indoors only. Up until last year I was heavily involved in animal charities especially feral cat feeding, Spay/neuter/release, etc.

When I say heavily, just the food costs I covered were over $10,000.

Here in Denmark it's specifically stated by law that cats are allowed to roam free, a cat is not a horse or a dog, it is a cat, roaming is what they do.

Here is a hypothetical for you. You don't own a cat, but one goes in your yard and pees on your outdoor furniture every week or 2. What do you do with said cat?

Just let it keep going about its business? IMO, if that is not a stray, someone would be taking care of it, not just letting it pee and crap on other property.

This happened to someone that I know, I don't know how they ended up handling it, but I would be very tempted to call animal rescue and just get rid of the thing.

I just looked it up and seems cats are actually covered by an old law that states you're allowed to chase it off your property (there's a lot of laws for dogs and none for cats). There are no recorded instances of anybody killing a cat because it came onto their property though.

personally, if I had a yard I'd have a dog so it'd be a non-issue. But in your scenario I'd spray some citrus oil around, maybe chase the cat off with a super soaker if that didn't work.

I'm not shelling out $50 because my dumbass neighbors are trespassing.
Calling animal control is free, as I mentioned I think we got a cage from them. Either way, they will pick up strays for free. Shooting and killing an animal can be illegal depending on the laws in the area, $50 would be a drop in the bucket if you were charged with anything.

Is that the same vet where you used to prance around on top of cages running from doggies?

No it's the same vet where I got trapped on the top of some cages from one dog.

Your mom gets so angry about ho jokes.
