i do, its because they've given me and my family 6 cars with nothing more than schedule maintenance. Dates back from the 80's, with 3 of them going 200k+ and 3 more that are fairly new and haven't reached that point yet.

i dont think a family will ever have own 6 pontiacs after the first one or two they'll vow never to own one again... they're not exactly the most fun to drive cars where people dont care about reliability and only drive it for "fun" till it dies. and people dont buy it for reliability just because... they're not reliable.
And if you knew anything about what you were spewing, someone might listen to you. But given you've not owned a GTO, much less a Pontiac it seems, you are no one to listen to. Fact of the matter is, the GTO wasn't designed or built by Pontiac. It was built by Holden and these cars have been in Australia for on the order of 10 years I believe. The GTO is not comparable to any other Pontiac except the G8, which *gasp* is also a Holden.

GASP these cars must be pontiacs saviors!!! It must save their reputation for making shitty cars, oh wait.. it doesn't. So who designed them doesn't really matter, unless they are the brand's saviors, which they aren't.

okay i've never owned or touched or looked at a pontiac twice, has everyone else in this thread owned a pontiac? if you dont then you're not allowed to post in here obviously.

Are you sure the trunk is as big as you think? When GM re-engineered it for the US, they had to move the gas tank into the truck IIRC, so the trunk space was hugely impacted.

I'd just look for a used G8 GT as they steadily drop in price.

Why doesn't it matter who designed them? It clearly matters when your argument is based on the reputation of something that doesn't apply here. It's been a while since I've run into a troll, I forgot how comical it was.

The GTO is a Holden which puts it above most pontiacs automatically. I have driven a G6 and it was the worst car I have ever driven in my life. Luckily the G8 and GTO share a separate lineage.

If your about power the GTO should be a good choice. I second the small trunk and hard to get in the back seats. That is true of every coupe I have even seen though. IMO part of the reason you buy a coupe is too make sure people don't ask for lifts. :p
Oh yeah gas will suck too. But it's a V8 sooooo waddya gonna do?

my rationale for the GTO was cheap (12k). although sadly, insurance for a 23 y/o is stupidly expensive (progressive quoted me @ 2k/year)

the LS1 vs the LS2 doesn't matter to me all that much as far as power goes. i was more concerned about reliability in one vs the other. hell, i enjoy my VW and it has ~180hp. The G8 (GT) is definitely an option. The G8GT is my dream car, especially since they're depreciating so quickly. I''d love to be able to grab one for ~20k or so. Great handling, 4 doors, lots of space, lots of power, but still practical.

oh and louisss - my family has owned two toyotas, two plymouths, two mitsubishis, three nissans, one audi, and one vw. more or less all have been great. i will admit to the VW and audi being more troublesome than the others. so, does the lack of a honda in my house mean hondas suck? are VW/Audis just that awesome? Or maybe it's just the owners.... maybe.

IMO the G8 is the best car Pontaic has made in a long time. Too bad they don't make them anymore. If their other cars were as good things would probably be different.

I have to say I was surprised you thought the GTO fit your needs that you posted. I agree with others, check out the G8 instead. Personally I love ghe GTO, but for what you want I'd think the G8 would be better suited.

no, doesn't matter at all, you're still entitled to throw your opinion in this thread. It was the other user who posted replying to me saying that since i dont have a gto i'm not allowed to comment on it. But i still will anyway.

The problem is you attack everything except hondas, and the only car you seem to have ever had is hondas. This is what a fanboi is.

i think the G8 is being made at least through the end of the 2010 model year

its too bad as that's the best pontiac ever.

GM is currently making the two best cars they've ever made, and in its omniscience is killing one of them (the other being the current CTS)

if you've only had 2 intel CPU's, the Q6600 and the i920, two of the best bang/buck processors out there, are you a fanboy? if you've only had 2 ati cards, the x1900xtx and a 4890 are you a fanboy? did u just make up that definition?

i do NOT attack everything except Hondas, and personally i've only had 2 Accords, but in my family there are: 1 Wrx, s500, towncar, pilot, 240sx, s420, Suburban, accord, 2x CRv. etc u get the point.

Incorrect sir. I said your opinion was next to worthless since you (A) have never owned a Pontiac, much less a GTO and (B) you just spew Honda fanboy crap. I never said you shouldn't comment here, I said you are "no one to listen to."

the current CTS has been doing quite well AFAIK - the CTS wagon and coupe are coming out, and GM is planning V-editions of both the coupe and wagon.

yup, sure has.

oh, it's also making the current vette, which is also on the top of the heap when it comes to best GM cars ever. though the inside looks like the mid 90s.

so if u dont have a gto, nor a car that you're trying to recommend then you're not one to be listened to either. i think we're at a stalemate

Lol, at the accord recommendation. Accords are some of the most boring and uncomfortable cars I have ever driven. Much more than an hr and I'm hurting.

GTO on the other hand has been praised for it's front seats at least. I've never had a lot of seat time to say much about it though. Interior is pretty decent as well. Heck got a ls1/2 + 6spd ='s hard to go wrong. If I was to get another car, it would definitely be on my list! Been wanting one for awhile now.

No. What's here and on the dealers lots will be it. No more. No more GT's and definitely no more GXP's.

Currently there are a handful (less than 10...perhaps fewer) of new GXP's in the US for sale. There may be a few '09 GTs left but brand new ones are a RARE find right now.
The majority of the parts that were slated for vehicle production are staying in Aussie land to help clear out the parts bin:

If you're spending 20k, you might want to consider the CTS-V as well.

My biggest issue with a CTS-V is that for the same price, I can get a newer G8 GT with lower miles, roughly the same performance, and don't have to worry about it being beat up at all.

Plus the first year(04?) was a supercharged V8, as opposed to the LS2. And there's a known suspension issue, right (fixed by recall/TSB, IIRC)?

As far as performance goes the vette is great. But as for the interior design and quality wise not so much. you shouldn't have plastic on a $50k car let alone the 100k version.

I have to disagree there. I have driven a 1990 Accord LX to Memphis and back in one day. That is easily a 7 hour drive each way. At the end I wasn't in pure comfort but I wasn't hurting either. The seats held up very well for the drive. I just wish memphis had some decent radio stations.

I thought the '04 was a NA LS6.

The '09 IS supercharged.

CTS-V Engines

2004 - 2005 used the 5.7L LS6 V8 Engine from the Corvette Z06
2006 - 2007 used the 6.0L LS2 V8 engine that was used in the GTO/Corvette

Major issues for the CTS-V:
rear diff whine - supposedly fixed for 2006+
cracking/peeling buttons on Nav unit

^^ appears you guys are right. I could have sworn the '04-05's were supercharged, but I am apparently wrong. NA LS6 from the C5 Z06 is the correct engine :)

They are pretty bland looking and the trunk is much smaller than you think it is.

I've driven a second gen one and wasn't impressed with it at all. They are way too heavy and the suspension didn't seem all that great.
