Most jap cars and other DOHC motors don't make that kind of torque, and if they do it's at much higher RPMs. Look at the Accord EX V6. 244hp @ 6244rpms and 211tq @ 5000rpms. Those car makers put 5 and 6-speed auto trannies to hide the fact that they lack torque at the lower RPMs.
It's apples to oranges.......pushrods to DOHC's. I choose pushrods and 400+ ft. lbs. of torque under 3000rpms.
Just my opinion, FWIW.
couple other problems with your statements;
The accord V6 is not DOHC, it's SOHC. The engine is handicapped to using civic DX level of technology on the valvetrain. Against say nissan's VQ, it makes similar power, with a smaller engine and much simpler valvetrain.

The V6 accord power curve is actually quite flat.
The V6 accord is faster than the G6 by pretty much all performance metrics by C&D;
0-60 times, 1/4 mile times
TSX 7.2-15.7@91mph
Accord 5.9-14.5@98mph
Speed 6 5.4-14.0@99mph
G6 6.2-14.9@95mph
Jetta 6.4-15.1@93mph
5-60 times
TSX 8.2
Accord 6.3
Speed 6 6.9
G6 6.5
Jetta 7.2
Even 5-60, a pseudo measure of usable low end torque, the accord is still faster. All while using a ~1 liter smaller engine and getting better gas mileage.
The G6 is the least atrocious american sedan i have driven, but it's still not as good as the accord, sorry.
