So "beating" on a car causes electrical problems? That's a new one.

We can sit here all day and trade anecdotal evidence, but what's the point? The fact of the matter is that if you maintain your car properly (take it to the shop for regular maintenence at the proper times) then you're not going to run into huge problems with the car. All cars have problems at some point in their life, but that can be delayed by maintaining one's vehicle properly.
Umm, that can be said about ANY car.

I'm shallow when it comes to cars. If it's ugly, I don't care what it can do.

3.

I don't know why A8s go for so much cash. They are even uglier.

Look... new Audis simply aren't that reliable. On my way to work this morning, I saw a brand-new (OR license plates go in alpha-numerical order, his started with "ZP", so I can even tell you that he bought the car in May 03) A4 sedan broke down on the side of the road with the hazards going.
It was a 1.8T, so I can only assume he had the coil-pack problem like all the others.

This is one of the worst arguments around for addressing the reliability of a car. I've heard it on here before, "I saw a new XXXXX on the side of the road, those things are unreliable!" It's just such a horrible way to draw any conclusion. Maybe he was looking at a map. Maybe he was talking on his cell phone. Maybe he was refilling his windshield washer fluid. You don't know. That reasoning is just plain stupid.

Personally I like them alot more now that they have those thin five spoke wheels on them, those and the S4 flat six spokes are the only wheels I like on that car but damn does it look nice...

Personally I have not ridden in an A4, only an A6 and my wife owns a 1.8T Jetta so I figure the A4 is somewhere inbetween...her parents are on their second A6 (leased) and they love it, there were some quirky issues with their first, but that was not enough to sway them from the car/brand which to me says alot....

Honestly if you want uber reliability and "affordable" service then look elsewhere, as some suggested Nissan and a few of the Japanese brands are more reliable and have more reasonable service, however I wouldn't hesitate to buy an Audi or any German car as I am willing to put up with a little quirkyness and higher service costs just so I get something that I think looks decent and has IMHO a nicer interior build, just think Japanese styling sucks except in a few rare and generally expensive exceptions.

I'm sorry for having an opinion that's not yours, please forgive me! How dare I?!! Someone should shoot me for my crimes against humanity.

I wouldn't have a problem with your opinion if it were a valid opinion instead of pure ignorance. Please, continue to disregard VW/Audi's reliability record.

Oh, and you are forgiven.

Meh... personally I thought the fact that he had the hood open with steam and smoke coming out from under it was a good indicator that something serious was wrong. 😉

I disagree. Completely. And I'm a self confirmed VAG whore.

Dieing coil packs are not an issue of poor maintenence. Windows falling into the doors are not an issue of poor maintenence. Transmissions getting stuck in a certain gear are not an issue of negligence when the owners manual states that they are maintenence free transmissions.

Flyermax2k3, care to comment?

Why should he? Ignoring facts is one of his trademarks.

They're very nice cars aside from the electrical gremlins that they can't seem to work out. Some people get lucky with them, others have extreme horror stories.

Personally, I'd buy a IS300 before a A4, but thats me.

And I'd buy a TSX before either of them. And that's just me! 😛

bah, you and your wrong wheel drive cars 😛

Bah! Me and my need to get up a 15 degree slope driveway in an Iowa winter 😛

I really like the looks of the TSX as well, and I've owned a few Hondas and Acuras over the years without a single complaint.

Well, I still like my 2003 A4. I've put 25,000 (mostly highway) miles on it, and haven't had any mechanical problems with it yet.

And, yes, I know that I'm pushing my luck every time I say that here 🙂

As I am sure has been said: Quattro is awesome, interior and exterior design is awesome, engines and trannies are only okay, reliability is way lacking.

Thats just an excuse! You should back your car up the driveway anyways 😛 😉

bleh i don't like the newer models 😉 but YAY!!!

I drive the B5 model and no problems yet... *knock on wood*
<-- 2000 Audi A4 1.8T

Gutes deutsches Auto 😉

I like Audi, but quality on recent modells is lacking. 10 years ago they were undistructible but now... I just hope that they get their act together again.

IS300 bleeeech.......for that money buy something better, IS300 imho is a joke.

Yeah, the IS300 reminds me of a pimped out Toyota Corolla. Hell, I wouldn't be suprised they share a bunch of parts.
