after trying both i feel that divx has better quality given the same video at the same resolution and size vs xvid.

what is h.264?

Agreed.............but I also have another question........

Is there any way to get *JUST* the Divx codec and not the 5.2.1 package? The package is like 7MB and I want to forward a couple vids of the grandkids to her but I'd just as soon attach a small file w/ the codec in it & have her install that rather than have her go to divx.com or d/l.com and have her d/l the whole thing.

FWIW, I voted divx only 'cuz I do find it easier, a bit more common yet and when I use virtual-dub w/ divx codec files get just a tad smaller than using xvid. (but I know some graphic guys who have evidence to backup Xvid's advantages).
