<< They need to send JR back to Smackdown and Jesse Ventura back to Michigan >>

Jim Ross does RAW and Jesse Venture is from Minnesota.

And Jim Ross is by far the greatest announcer ever.

I stand by my exaggeration.

If they got rid of the fakeness it'd own. None of that "oops I slipped before the hike" crap, doesn't cut it with me. If they tone down on that and gear up the plays with some action, I'll watch it all the time

My favorite line, from one of the announcers. "I got 15 yards for roughing one of the cheerleaders!"

HAHAHAHA. TOo bad Dennis Miller isn't this funny.

Good God, how many times must the fact that it's completely un-scripted be restated for people to understand that it is indeed unscripted?

Hmm. Wonder if all of the people griping about the XFL were the same sorts griping about the USFL and AFL back in the day?

It definitely is a better (and purer) product than Arena Football, and above the par of most college ball I've seen.

Hey, it's frickin' winter. It's still cold, so it still feels like football season. My hockey and basketball teams sucks, so this will fill in nicely until baseball season.

Hey GoldenBear, let people have an opinion on it. We don't all think it's as good as you think it is.

My opinion? It sucks. It sucks bad. If they want to be extreme, why the hell are there penalty flags. Watching a little of the game, I saw hardly any difference to make it more extreme than the NFL. Some of the rules can even be found in a high school rulebook!

Interviewing the players and coaches is a stupid idea. If the XFL were to be successful (hardly), then it'd act as a stepping stone to the NFL. Do you really think that the coaches want to talk when they're trying to look their best for the pros?

Face it, this league was created for the fans of WWF. Yes, those fans that are 12+ years that are watching the soap opera that is the WWF.

There won't be an XFL next season.

I agree 100% and just said so in Golden Bear's new XFL thread. As much as he seems to be talking it up maybe he has some stock in NBC.

I haven't watched but one NFL game this season, I didn't know who was in the super bowl until the day before it, but I watched 20 minutes of the Chicago and Orlando game and enjoyed it quite a bit.

I enjoyed it because of these reasons -

1) The emphasis was on the team, not a specific player. We don't have Neon Deon Sanders, Brett Favre, Randy Moss, or Marshall Faulk to rely on. It's a bunch of no-name guys who are out there having fun.

2) We don't have some announcer with a calculator shoved up his ass. I don't have Al Micheals sitting up in a booth telling me that on the last 20 3rd downs a team has had, they've averaged 2 yards on the play. I DON'T CARE! I don't care if Curt Warner's pass completion on 2nd down is 72%. Let them play the damn game already!

3) I don't have to sit through the commercialization like in the NFL. Ever 3 minutes I don't have a pause for "Maxi Tampon timeout" and the Half-time discussion brought to you by Speedstick.

Give it some time already.

Hahahaha. What kind of statement is this? Hey, I could be the greatest announcer ever if I actually wrote out what I was going to say beforehand. The good thing about Al Michaels and Bob Costas (baseball) is that they talk spontaneously. Meaning, that when a great play happens, they're there to deliver a great play by play. Sure they have stats, and that's a good part of commentating, but it's all done through RESEARCH.

Did you honestly think that Jim Ross doesn't know what's going to happen that night on WWF?

I think it was alright for a league that is just starting off. There were a few things that bother me though. One is they have to get some people who know what to do when a player is hurt. A guy is laying on the field crying of leg pains, and they try to get him to stand up... While the hurt player is screaming that it hurts to much to put weight on it? Stupid.

Then they go the the second game and the running back comes off the feild saying that his wrist is hurt, holding it like it was sprained and that team "doctor" tells him.. "I think it is just bruised". Well, you better make sure that is all that is wrong with it before sending him back onto the field. He is your star player!

They need to show less of the drunk people in the crowd, and less of the women dancing around half nude. There is no way that I would let my child watch any of these games knowing that every few minutes there will be a women showing off her boobs or some player/anouncer making a comment about sex.

They have to fire the coach of the New York/New Jersey team. He has no reason to be coaching. My coach in middle school could have done a better job out there. Where is the motavation to play and correct your mistakes when your coach is letting every mistake go by?

<< Hey GoldenBear, let people have an opinion on it. We don't all think it's as good as you think it is. >>

My gripe is that people have seen one game, and they're making a million judgments on everything else and its fate. And I don't believe this forum is filled with any psychics.

<< Watching a little of the game >>

No need to read more, the fact that you saw a "little of the game" just ruins whatever credibility you have to say about it.

<< As much as he seems to be talking it up maybe he has some stock in NBC. >>

No I don't. But your reasoning of argument comes from the fact that, "I don't like wrestling, I didn't want to like the XFL, therefore I don't like it."

<< What kind of statement is this? Hey, I could be the greatest announcer ever if I actually wrote out what I was going to say beforehand. >>

1) Did you see the football game today? Considering the level of talent, Jim Ross commentated from, he's truly up there with the top announcers.
2) Obviously and unsurprisingly I don't think you've ever seen a wrestling match in which Ross has poetically and beautifully illustrated it. And no very few people can match it even if they knew what was to happen. But I can't tell you that, you'd really have to listen to understand. And please, I don't want to hear much more until you've seen King of the Ring '98 with Undertaker and Foley.

personally I think this XFL sucks the only thing I like about it is coach and player are wired up so everytime they call play audians can hear it. Other then that its too normal nothing special about it.

It sucks, and it will be dead in 2 years. The only people pushing it in my area are the ones who rushed off & got season tickets. When they start giving free lap dances in the stands though, I'm there.

For all the people here that say it sucks... could it possibly be because the game that was on NBC was Hitmen v. Outlaws? The Hitmen were what sucked... its a shame that I have to call them my home team. If you watched to the end, where I personally believe Vince said "Hey guys, this game isnt very good, put on Rage v Enforcers" (with jerry the king and JR doing color). That game was actually exciting.

I suggest you hold your opinions until you actually see more games than that travisty that was the Hitmen. XFL has some very promising aspects that should result, when all the newness has warn off and the jitters go away, in some fantastic games.

Too much difference in skill levels out there, kind of like you and your friends playing a pickup game and one of the guys played college or semi-pro ball. Fast paced though, maybe the nfl will get the hint.

I watched a bit of the new york/las vegas game and I found that there was way too much screentime for the damn chearleaders. The game is decent though. Since there are no big$$ superstars and stuff i find it decent.

I have overall mixed feelings on the XFL.

Rules: Pretty close to a mix of college and high school football rules near as I can tell. Anybody with Ref experience care to comment?

Camera: Get rid of all the stedycams on the field. They need to use the sideline arms like any other TV game coverage. I do like the camera behind the QB though.

Interviews: They need to go. They are the most annoying aspect of the coverage. There where a few occasions when it looked like one of the players was going to jack the interviewer. If I was a player I know I would. They distract from the game and are unnecessary, especially the coach interviews. The coverage in the locker was kinda cool though.

Plays: Pretty much standard playbook material. The tallent is a little low right now, but what you expect for a new league and (relatively) low pay. I also like how there are no real super star players right now. The idea of being able to hear the QB radio is cool, but you notice how this is broadcasted to the whole stadium and not just TV? That ruins same tactical interests and advantages as far as I am concerned.
