I'd support an amendment that banned morons for running for office

amen. but back on topic, i dont agree with the gay thing, i dont want other guys hitting on me, but, i have no problem letting them do their thing and getting the same benefits a straight married couple gets. stupid republicans

Name a prominent Democrat who supports gay marriage? Edwards? Kerry? Bzzt. Bzzt.

Daschle? Bzzt.

Dean? Bzzt.

Shall I go on?

Hell no, the last thing we need the govt telling us who we can and can't marry. 🙂

In fact, I would personally NOT vote for someone who supported it.

Stupid generalizers. I'm Republican, but I support gay marriages. Oh no! I just fvcked up your insult.
(And for your information, Al Gore was for the protection of marriage amendment during the 2000 race. "stupid democrats").

Thats correct, elected democrats overwhelmingly DO NOT support gay marriage.

John Kerry is taking the same position as Gore did. :disgust:

Kerry will vote no on an admendment, or so he says, he likes to flip-flop on issues, but he does NOT support gay marriage.

What they do behind closed doors is their business. True I wouldn't exactly enjoy seeing them frolicking about hand in hand
or smooching (actually I would find that disgusting) but if they want to marry it doesn't harm me or my lifestyle in any way. I have
enough to worry about as it is without getting into others business.

My main question is how would gay marriage be beneficial? Does it mean gay couples that marry each other love each other more than those that aren't married? Do they think marriage would validate their relationship in any significant way?

Or do they just want all the insurance benefits that are traditionally afforded to married couples?

Exactly. The only benefit is financial. Why dont gay people just say they are married otherwise.

Financially, Where should the line be drawn? Can someone have 10 signifigant others?

I say ban it.

What's next that the gov't will decide to discriminate against. It all has to start somewhere and once it gets going it will never end.

No need to discriminate against people simply because of their secual orientation. I won't vote for Bush this election because of hsi stance on this as well...

From what I understand, Bush is for allowing civil unions that extend the same benefits... if you're willing to go that far, what exactly is the problem with calling it marriage?

My question: why does the government need to make marriage a legal thing? Why cannot marriage be a religious thing and have a civil union for legal purposes? I'm talking about everyone here - including heterosexual couples.

Leave the government out of our religions.

Note: I realize this doesn't answer the question "should gay civil unions be allowed", but it certainly takes the emotions out of this debate.

Well, who you going to vote for. Kerry's basically saying the same thing.

Oh...but that word...marriage. We must surely keep that institution holy and revere it. The sanctity of marriage must not be tarnished or God shall smite our great nation!

Marriage is not tied to religion. Many cultures have marriages as institutions, but not Christian as a religion. Are you saying that their marriages should be null and voided as well? How about athiests who get married? And why is Christian marriage better than any other marriage?

I'm going to laugh my ass off when you get struck by lighting, or swarmed by vicious, beer-loving wasps.

No, such a thing does not belong in the Constitution.

Well, neither does prohibition, but that sure found it's way in there, for a little while at least.
