poll: would you like to see post counts eliminated?

Where's the option for "I don't care."?

Actually, considering the rash of suicides (I'd conservatively predict an 85-90% rate among Lifers) that would result from eliminating post counts, I'm inclined to say leave them be.

Give me one good reason why this forum should buck the established tradition of displaying postcounts. As far as the theory that people post crap just to boost postcount, I doubt that can be backed up. Most of the crap that gets posted would be posted regardless of whether postcounts were visible or not.

But yeah, I don't think people wake up in the morning and think: "Gee, I really ought to up my post count over at AT a little."

Our status should be determined by how long we're been a member, not how much we talk.

Now, the problem with that is that we have people who have registered and never, or almost never talk. Should someone be a lifer simply because they've made 10 posts in the last 3 years?

I've been around since long before the post counts began and visit multiple times daily, but only post when I feel I have something useful to add. Yet I just became a "Senior" a couple of months ago. I see a lot of people here with "advanced" numbers of post counts who post a bunch of "I'm in" and "Bumps" and feel they've got the right to talk down to others who don't rank as high (in general....not pointing any fingers!). Too bad they can't go by the number of visits, numbers of posts read, or time spent on the forums. Maybe that would help eliminate some of the useless drivel.....

probably wouldn't help eliminate it. I'm here most of my day at work. I read a few threads in between doing work.

why does it matter if people see one's post count? if it doesn't matter, then the logical thing to do would be not displaying it because it serves no purpose. "established tradition" isn't a good enough answer to keep them visible. i thnk the burden of proof lies on you to give a good reason to display the amount of posts one has.

No, it lies on you in order to change something that is already set.

Why does it matter that we have avatars, or different options for the forum? We just do, that's the way it is. If there's a good reason to change something then fine change it, but you have to have a reason to do so.
