Poll: Would you "defraud" Dell over a $2K plasma tv?

I vote explain to Dell what happened, they may take pity on you and tell you to send it back and they'll send it back to the manufacturer saying it was delivered that way or something. Best Buy did that for my brother... little different circumstances though... he bought a 52 inch plasma TV and when he took it out of the back of his truck, it hit the ground a little hard and wouldn't turn on when he got it inside, he called BB and told them about what happened, and they told him to bring it back, and they'll replace it and just send that one back to the manufacturer and say it wasn't in working condition when it was delivered to the store.

Just cause you would say its a shipping damage doesnt mean that you would do it in fs/ft. Read the whole thread. If that happened to me I would say it was damaged while shipping it. But I would NEVER do that to a person on this forum or any site I would sell something. These are two very different things.
lol! "I only defraud big companies, I would never do that to someone here."

Odd set of ethics. "I only rip people off who can afford it."

What mistake has Dell made that you paid for? None here.

How many people have had dell withold money on credit cards waiting for deals that never shipped. They put the money on hold for several days, in which I could not use my credit cards for other purchases. Perfectly legit deals (not even price mistakes) did not ship in a timely manner or ship at all, cancelled for no reason, causing all kinds of delays and money. Never has customer service offered any alternatives, explained their mistakes or compensation for errors caused.

Dell corporate accounts and support are fantastic (which was why I was such a big fan of them), but on their consumer level, they have been less than satisfactory.

lol! Ah yes, "I know Dell must have screwed someone somewhere in this world. I'm doing this for them...whoever they are!"

Ok, so why don't you share the proceeds of your 'altruistic misdeed' with them, since you're doing this for them?

"Screw you, pal!"

When they steal $2000 from you, let me know. Incompetence and bad CS does NOT = fraud. It did NOT cost you anything but aggravation. And aggravation is NOT justification for theft.

What's Dell going to do about people discussing what they would do in a hypothetical situation? The guy that this actually happened to handled it properly.

Modern day Robin Hoods.

In the end, the Robin Hood ideal only serves to make everybody poor.

This logic REALLY perplexes me. Can people NOT see past their own selfish desires? There are MILLIONS of people poorer than you who figure a few bucks wont break you. Is it OK for them to steal from you, because it's only a few dollars?

The amount of the theft, relative to the wealth of the victim cannot, in any way justify theft.

How do we know that? You posted about being unethical on a public forum.

First thing I would do is call up my homeowners insurance provider and see if I can't write it off on that policy minus the deductable.

Then try and ebay off the plasma screen for whatever I could get out of it hopefully making up the difference.

Seems like the most rational advice that I've read since this whole debacle started. 🙂

Thinking I had learned my lesson well, I said, "The best policy."
He promptly corrected me, "No, it is the ONLY policy. To live your life any other way is to live it in constant guilt and shame. Never forget that."
I never have.

My company deals with plasma monitors all the time. We'll have one tip over in the shop once every few months. It sucks but there's nothing you can do about except try to be careful. They're usually very front heavy, I guess you just learned that. 🙂

Anyway... Good luck trying to claim shipping damage. The boxes almost always have tip indicators on them. If the tip indicator wasn't disturbed when it was dropped off at your house then you have no case. The shipping company has record of the tip indicator status and they'll most certainly not "give in" to a $2000 charge.

I'd call Dell, tell them what happened, and get a quote to repair the damage. You'll have to cover shipping and the repairs but that's what you get for Nancying around with a $2000 plasma monitor.

Very true. Just looking at that other thread really opens one's eyes to who to trade with and who not to. Lots have been added to DNT list. Unfortunate, really......some beforehand really came across otherwise.....but their true colors have shown up and now are on display for the world to see.
