the ipod shuffle seems to be worth the price

100 bucks and 512mb mp3 player seems reasonable to me

you are aware that the ipod shuffle is a flash-based player vs. the HD-based "normal" ipods, right? personally, i'd never jog/run with a HD-based player, so the ipod shuffle does have a reasonable purpose.

Flash based players still have a very rightful place. They are vastly superior in battery life and aren't adversely affected by the jolts and jitters when exercising. Much cheaper too.

So there's certainly a market for them, I just see it as a half ass attempt on Apples part to not include an LCD.

His money and his choice, get over it.

I would not be either. I have no need or desire for a Mac and I think you can get a better flash MP3 than the iPod shuffle; maybe one with a LCD screen.

Apple may have done an awesome job developing and marketing the iPod, but seems like this Shuffle thing is pretty half-assed done.

mac mini - awesome idea. That thing would make a great media pc :)

ipod shuffle - more or less pointless. Ipod's edge over the competition is itunes/playlist managment and the user interface. Since the shuffle one has no screen, you dont get the UI and you dont get the playlist managment w/ no screen or way to control it. Apple is trying their hardest market spin to sell an mp3 player that can play songs in *gasp* random order.

I am never going to tell someone what to do with their money.

That being said, some people just have this pre-concieved notion of what Apple and Macs are all about. If they can't complain about the price, they complain about the mouse. If they can't complain about the mouse or the price, then they will create some other reason to hate them so they don't have to admit that they were wrong or ignorant.

Of couse. The price is good but there is no LCD therefore they are probably able to save $10 on the manufacturing cost. Anyway, I bought a gig flash player for $150 (rebranded iriver), has an LCD and all for the same price.

but, using a Mac will make you gay!

:p

i'll admit i'm hesistant to buy a Mac simply because i'm not used of the OS. i find the "hate" that people have to Apple products or the Mac OS is rather stupid. same thing applies to people who love to bash microsoft products. i can understand brand loyalty, but in the computer world, i'm partial to whatever works and get the job done.

besides, since when is neffing OS-dependent?? :D

I'm diggin' the ipod shuffle, even if they are trying to sell it based on a feature that's available in almost all music devices (shuffle). I like the USB storage feature also..

Any better alternatives for MP3 players in that price range that double as USB memory sticks?

personally, i'd rather get a 256MB Muvo with built in FM tuner and an LCD for around the same price.

since i'll be using a flash-based player for working out, i don't really need the 512MB storage capacity.

i'm pretty sure the Muvo has the amazing/revolutionary shuffle feature that Apple has pioneered :p

You do understand that assumption goes both ways right?

I'm not going to turn this into a mac vs pc flamefest, but I've heard your exact statement numerous times.
It's not a false statement by anymeans, I see windows fanboys using thoes ridiculous complaints all the time.
The reality is that mac users are far more elitest than any pc user. The justifications for this are weak and subjective at best.

To each their own.

Man, I didn't even do anything! I just turned it on! It was working this morning! I swear, Windows XP Pro always giving problems. If not now then sometime later. I'm not a novice user either, I know what I'm doing.

So, I have decided on this:

For school work, surfing, etc = Mac Mini

Gaming, watching movies and storing files = my Windows PC (will not be connected to internet unless online gaming, other than that surfing on the Mac)

Plus, I have a KVM switch and a monitor with dual VGA connectors...so no needed accessories. The Mac mini is so tight and small.

And plus, I have a friend that knows another friend who works for Apply....so...DISCOUNTS....WOOO.

Real quick question: Is a Mac real picky when it comes to installing new memory? Also, if I installed PC3200 RAM in it will it automatically declock to PC2700 speeds?

i'm sorry but 90% of the problems with windows is user error. win xp is a very solid operating system. granted osx is a great os but unless i'm getting a rig just for video editing I'm not going to pay the price premium

I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person to realize that there is no screen on this device, even with the tiny size and the added memory size, this it pretty much equal to a first generation muvo from creative.

Personally I complain about the price with the ipodshuffle, for $100, the device should definately have some kind of screen.

As for the mini mac, I game to much to use any mac.

Already have a 4G 20GB iPod, which is perfect for my needs.

As for the Mac Mini... maybe when OS X Tiger comes out. I'm graduating in May and I need my AIW Radeon to watch TV right now.

To each their own.

I can agree that Mac users are more elitest. But there are a lot of pompous and ignorant Windows users that would rather go to their grave ripping on Apple and all of their products than actually use one and develop their own opinion of them.

I am not trying to be an elitest or a zealot. I am just saying people should base their opinion on first-hand experience as opposed to regurgitating the same overused arguments that they hear everyone else use.

People used to complain about the price. Now that there is a Mac for $499, they will find another reason to complain as opposed to trying it out.
