The Mini Mac is a pretty cool little device. Would be a great option for college students and the elderly. It's small, takes up no space, and is easy to operate.

It should do well. Would be a great choice for computer labs too assuming they could get MS office products on them.

I think the Mac mini is a fantastic idea. Theyve finally created a mac at an entry level price point. It will be interesting to see if they stumble with the gaming factor as most entry level people are wanting a computer that will do everything, gaming included. Ill probably end up getting one and keeping the pc for gaming and such.

MacMini: Macs are useless to me, and shrinking one would simply multiply its worthlessness. 😀

iPod Shuffle: Got a 3rd Gen 40 gigger already. I'm sort of thinking of getting a flash based player, but I'm open to any 512MB players with better value (if any).

(edit) Btw what kind of sucka$$ name is "iPod Shuffle" anyway?

I would have bought a mac mini instantly if it had a slightly better video card (at least one supported by CoreImage in Tiger).
As for the iPod Shuffle, I have mixed feelings, and already own an iPod.

As it is right now, I might get a mac mini to replace an aging PC, but I plan on getting a dual G5 when 3 GHz is reached.

BTW, I already own a powerbook.

no, b/c i know that the minimac would be too slow, i arleady ahve an ibook and its like they took the screen out of the ibook and upgraded teh cpu. Same crappy video card. I might want it to be a HTPC but I have yet to see a good front end I could use

I love the disclaimers at the bottom of that site

"Music capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128Kbps AAC encoding.
Do not eat iPod shuffle.
Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced. Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings. See www.apple.com/batteries for more information.
Some computers require either the optional iPod shuffle Dock or a USB cable extender (sold separately).

I actually went back and read about the shuffle. Good god what an abortion of an MP3 player. Who in this day and age would spend money on a displayless MP3 player that has the marketing gimmic of being "spontaneous"????

And this is coming from an Ipod Mini owner.

😕

Does the Mac mini use a standard 3.5" Hard drive?

If it uses a 2.5" notebook hard drive, then I will never buy them because it will probably take 5 minutes to load the OS.

I currently have better uses for $500 than a Mac mini, but I'm sure if I had one right here, I'd find ways of playing with it. It's an interesting little thing, at the least.

Not completely sure the iPod Shuffle would be worth it... as has already been said, there are equally good or better MP3 players for the money.
