Anyone have a car mount for their nexus 7? I was thinking of grabbing one of these Arkon SM517 Windshield Mount for 7-Inch Tablets from amazon for $11. Anything better out here?

I received mine and it's worth the $11. The suction cup is decent and good enough I would trust it with the Nexus 7 on the windshield. You can move and rotate the arm in practically all directions and lock it in place which is nice. The weak point of the mount is the movable hook/latch clip pieces that hold the tablet/phone. I can see clip pieces wearing and breaking with extended use. Overall, I'm very happy with the car mount. I used it today to mount the Galaxy Nexus in portrait mode and it worked flawlessly. I love the fact it can hold phone or tablet. Makes it double useful for me.

No flicker here, but I for have a small amount of screen separation on the left center side.

Anyone have theirs without defects out of the box and start seeing screen flickering?

Mine for the most part is fine however I do notice some flicker here and there. I have a little bit of a screen issue on the left side but i never notice it.

One thing I do notice and I'm not sure what's causing it is touch screen sensitivity. I notice it mostly when typing, key presses won't register all the time making it very difficult to type. Also in games it won't work quite right and it is sometimes rectified temporarily by locking the screen and unlocking again.

Thinking about looking into getting an RMA but I haven't had time to look and see if it's a widespread issue/software fix.

A little flicker that I only notice in Tapatalk and Chrome. I'll have to try using a different browser and see if I notice it elsewhere.

It's what I use. Works perfectly.
If you don't mind having the Nexus 7 lower, a cupholder mount as mentioned in this article would work well.

Neither do I, suction cup mounts always seem to fall off whenever I use them. I used epoxy on mine, it's not going anywhere anytime soon. 🙂

Thanks for the reviews. Just ordered one, but the price went up to $13. D:😡😛

Crono, what is that app you have with the compass(?), speed, and ... can't make out what else is going on there on the left.

It's Torque. There is some nifty stuff you can see with the app if you have a OBD II bluetooth adapter (which I don't have yet, but plan on picking up by the end of this week). The graph on the left is the acceleration. The widgets are all customizable, there are a bunch of other ones and other themes as well.

Does Google offer any recourse if the glass is coming out of the case? It's not terribly bad at this point, but the left side often creeks a bit and needs to be pushed back in, firmly, and then it stays for a while. The Nexus was purchased from Staples or Quill.

OK, never mind. I see there are a million posts and suggestions everyone on this issue.

Share impressions and pics whenever you get yours. I thought about the Portenza, I really liked the composition cover.

Im expecting the case next week. They have a huge backlog of orders apparently (ordered mine on the 4th and just got notice today that it was shipped). Seems like alot of people from the droid forums spoke highly of the quality of the cases and the same from ipad owners which portenzo also makes cases for. Ill find out firsthand hopefully next week.

I just ordered one from Future Shop. It's still sold out most places in Canada, including online, and in the entirety of Toronto, so I'll have to drive 20 km to pick it up.

I wasn't going to get it, but with rooted support for Stickmount, I'll give it a shot. I'll also keep an eye on those ROMs with NTFS support, but I'd much prefer not to have to use a custom ROM.

BTW, with Stickmount, has anyone tried using ext3/4?

Got the Nexus 7 today. Feels well-built. Quad-core flies. 1280x800 at 7" looks quite good. Not retina, but very decent. Viewing angle is excellent. Lowest brightness is too bright for viewing in a dark room though, and the auto-brightness functionality needs adjustment. Chrome is nice, and the large font option is good. WiFi tethering works fine off my iPhone 4.

The OS isn't as slick as iOS though in general, even at 4.1. And the non-rotating home screen is just #^@&$*% brain dead. It really is annoying as people say it is. It's just stupid.

I'll likely be rooting it within the week. I want Stickmount.

Nova Launcher is your friend. I'm one of those weirdos who uses the N7 in landscape as much, if not more than in portrait.

I have that one too. Fit is great and the wake feature works flawlessly.

I was surprised at the quality actually. When I bought it, it was 9.99 plus shipping. I figured it might have some shabby stitching or cheesy feel but for the money I took a shot. Glad I did- stitching is tight and consistent and it looks and feels great.

Thanks. I'll install that.

I just don't understand Google's (il)logic on this. I too use landscape just as much, if not more than portrait.

For regular non-mobile websites on a 7" tablet, landscape helps a lot for readability, but going back and forth from a portrait home screen to a landscape browser is very jarring, and annoying.

So I am thinking of finally buying a tabet for myself.
My concerns are :

1. I dont have a cellphone, can I use Google Voice to call landline/mobile phones in the US for free (as I can do in my desktop) ?

2. Is there any other restriction on using USB as storage other than not being able to play movie ? Can I just copy the movie to the Nexus and play it from there ?

3. Whats the current news on Nexus 7 with 4G connection ?

1. Yes, but you need an app like talkatone or grooveip.
2. You can play movies from usb otg.
3. Not going to happen(most likely)
