I think the Mobile Athlon XP-M and low prices of very good and stable SocketA boards has swayed quite a few. That and not EVERYBODY is looking to overclock. A lot just want the best bang for their buck, and right now that is Athlon-XP system.
I can get a Socket A board and CPU for less then $100 that is very stable and fast. Add in some cheap after rebate Ram, etc.. and there ya go....
Of course even with that said, I run a Athlon64
