We always talk about HOT rigs, but I was wondering just how many of us are running some slugs (my brother is still upset he cannot find 5 1/4 inch floppies anymore). I am not talking about the 486x you still have gathering dust in the garage, I am talking about your best, main and number one home computer.

Are you still running Netscape 3 because if you upgraded you would crash your system? You definately qualify, so please post the rig you are running, this will be fun.

Rules:
1) the rig must be running, and it must be the rig you are writing this on
2) it must be your best or only home computer (excluding work computers)
3) how much did you pay for it way back when?
4) what versions of software are you running? Windows 3.1?

Who knows, Santa may be reading this...

My slug is a athlon 900 unlocked and running at 1200. But my mom uses a 486@25mhz at home everyday. and surfs the net at a blazing 28.8K

Well I'm no longer running it, but my 286-8mhz VaxMate is still very much alive.

EDIT: I didn't pay for it, but I believe my dad paid $6000 - $8000 for it back in the day...not sure exactly how much VaxMate's went for back in '86, '87.

Specs:

80286 8mhz CPU
1MB memory (later upgraded to the max of 3MB)
10MB hard drive (later upgraded to the max of 30MB)
integrated CGA graphics
integrated 10" mono-amber-CGA monitor (later upgraded to Paradise EGA and external Packard Bell EGA monitor around the time King's Quest 3 came out!)
116-key keyboard (for VT1xx/2xx emulation?) and 3-button USB-like mouse!
DEC VMS operating system for x86 (later replaced with DOS 2/3.0/3.11)

I am using a pretty large pos.

computer was purchased in 98 or 99, dont remember.
monitor was purchased in 1993

its a dual celeron 366 (wont oc anymore)
the power surge a couple weeks ago blew my power supply up and took my voodoo3 with it so i'm using a 4mb diamond S3 virge card from the computer i put together in 1996.
384mb ram 10 gb hd, and a panasonic 7502b burner

my old monitor broke, so the one i'm using now was from the very first computer our family bought back in 93. at least its a 15"er, the picture is tinted yellow and it only does 1024x768 at 60hz.

Still works well for web/email/irc/ and even civ3 works well on it if i disable autosave.

I'm running a P2 300MHz with 64MB of EDO ram and a 2 gig hard drive. However, that sucker has an ATI All-in-wonder 128 (AGP) installed with some yamaha XG sound card and network card. Even put an 8X burner on it. Baby still runs like a beauty with XP installed.

Well, on a pure computational basis, the winner here would be anyone with a 6502 based cpu system. This includes early Commodores (C64 the most famous), Apple // line, and perhaps some other machines like Ataris. MIPS rating on these systems is about .02 The next slowest system would be the Z80 @ 4MHz which can do about .05 MIPS, followed by the all-familiar 8088 4mhz at about .2 MIPS.

I've got a HP 9825 that still runs. It can't connect to the Internet so I can't post from it. Nothing like a 32 character display. Still have some programs I can run on it too.

My main rig is still using an Abit BH6. I replaced the 300 MHz Celly with a 566 though. Of course, I'm overclocking it to 850.
