I like both. The cover is very well done though, and evokes more reaction from me than the TFF version.

Jules definitely. TFF has the gay ass 80's New Wave sound going on. I mean they did that gay ass New Wave sound about as good as anybody back then but to me they all sound the same.

It's true, the 80s did sound like a jubilant donkey.

Like both, prefer Jules, more impactful, speaks more to the experience of the individual.

Yea, the song that he didn't write speaks more to HIS experience as an individual. Not to the person who actually wrote the song. Makes sense.

I know you're being sarcastic, but Jules' version is the version TFF should have done. If I were to hear the two without any contextual knowledge I would assume the TFF version was some goofy cover of Jules' original. He seems to have had a better understanding of how to convey the original lyrics than the artist who penned them.

Jules + Donnie Darko = Epic Win. Original by TFF + typical corny music video of the period = not so much.

Yeah, in a way, this is like the dying Johnny Cash putting a lifetime of anguish into Trent Reznor's hurt. It was a 'lived' version of the song. Though both are simply outstanding pieces of work.

The funny thing about this is even the Tears for Fears guy said the Gary Jules version was better than the original, so yeah Gary Jules version FTW.

I just watched the Johnny Cash version on Youtube, thanks, I'd never heard that before. You were dead on with that comparison. It's like the song was written for him to sing it.

Tough call, because they're both excellent for different reasons. However, the guy dancing ruined the TFF video for me. WTF was up with that?

Original FTW. The cover version got really old, really fast, especially because of the GOW trailer.

I never saw the GOW trailer.

I think the original is peppy because it's trying to be ironic.

Aside from Arkaign, none of you had ever heard of this song before the Gears trailer.

It's hard to describe but I found Gary Jules' version too "sad voice'd", too emotionally distraught. Kinda what the song calls for, but, not to my liking. The TFF version is too fast though...I dunno, I like them both equally I suppose.

I think it is cool that the TFF version might be deeper, it masks the levels of sadness within a regular shitty 80s song. And on some level that is "woa, mindblowing" yet on another level, it sucks compared to the cover.

In other words, discuss the original, enjoy the remake.
