The best overall Japanese sports cars?? So we include fun-to-drive, power, reliablility, handling prowess, and ability to handle more power??

Simple. It ain't a Nissan nor a Toyota. Only one car is a true sports car out of those options, the Mazda Miata. It is the purest sports car available from Japan.

EDIT: I would add the original 240Z, but thats not in production anymore.

IMO it's a toss up between the NSX and the Skyline. Both have their points. The Z has the best lineage probably though.

Anyone who's seen the new Rx-8 knows it such a sweet car for the price.

Oh ... wait for the next gen NSX.

Are you kidding me? The latest Skyline GTR is ugly as hell. Boxy like a Volvo. The one before was beautiful, but it looked like an S14 anyway. I don't know what an fd3s is. Supras look very nice though, NSX is not pretty by any stretch of the imagination, and neither is the S2k. Current Z doesn't look nice, previous Z looks good but not that good, and the older ones looked like crap.

Ford Pinto...of course it's neither Japanese, sporty, nor really much of a car for that matter.

Skyline GTR or the RX-7. The RX-7 was engineered to beat the NSX in every way possible.

NSX. The standard by which V6-powered sports cars were judged all throughout the 90s.

Do they have a 2 door version?
I would think of it as more of a rally bred car than pure sports.

except on reliability.

:) You got me there. With the price difference though, you could easily afford a few engine rebuilds. They're both very find cars and I would personally choose the NSX if I could get either one for free, but I'd say that the RX-7 is the better sports car.

Aren't used NSXs in the 20k range? How much are RX-7s? Either way, if it was my money, I'd prefer a Miata.

Yea, for like a 91 or so with a whole lot of miles, you could get it in the upper 20's.

93's with like 70-80k miles are like 24-26k

The 240 and 260z's were nice. The rest was down hill after that IMO.

I had a friend with a modded 260Z that had a reworked head, cam and exhaust that was pretty nice. Nice lightweight, good handling, quick car with styling robbed from a Jag E Type or Ferrari GTO.

I also liked the early Z's that had the small block V8's transplanted in them. :p

my friend still has his early '80s Datsun 240z!!
Huh? That would be the 280ZX, not the 240z. Those were early 70's.

Are we basing this only on looks? If so, I vote the R33 GTR and the RX-7 as the best looking sport cars (or just cars in general) from Japan.

Always have loved the Supra - always will love it

I personally think the Supra looks the best out of all of them.

I LOVE the "ass" of the supra....its sooo awsome.

Though they are remaking it the ass of it doesn't look as appealing as before.

haha sorry for using 'ass" but I just can't think of the right word at this moment
