Aren't there like shitloads of people dying from AIDS? In Africa, other countries?

Unfortunately, it's about as sad as it can get. My family just found out last Thursday about this, and it looks like its too late for her. My niece has one of the rarest forms of Brain Stem Cancer, known as Diffuse pontine glioma. It has a 2% recovery rate. To say that we are overwhelmingly axious and sad about the diagnosis and prognosis is a gross understatement. :(

Yes, because they continue to act in a deliberate manner that puts them at risk for it. Some do so knowing they are at risk by their actions, and others are nt educated enough to know better, but AIDs is _100% preventable_, and this is what I mean by "cure". It's kind of like there is a cure for hangovers: don't drink.

Situation like that kinda makes SIDS look silly.

According to the UNAIDS 2003 Fact Sheet, over 60 million people have affected with HIV since it was first diagnosed 20 years ago. While these numbers are shocking, what is even more shocking is their estimate that between 2000 and 2020, over 68 million people will die of AIDS prematurely in the 45 countries most affected by the disease.

Pretty high considering it's been cured with education.

Definitely cancer.

My grandmother passed away from extremely fast moving cancer in July 2003 - we only had a little over a month warning that anything was wrong.

I have friends that have AIDS... and I'm sure I will have heartbreak because people I love with AIDS will die early in life (unless AIDS is cured)... but I still have to say cancer. More people die from cancer than AIDS, I think... no facts behind that tho.

If I developed AIDS or got involved in a relationship with someone that has AIDS... then I would likely change my story. But right now I have to say cancer.

"die of AIDs prematurely" ?

Probably means dying before they would if they didn't have the disease.

My comment was a bit tongue in cheek, but aids is 100% preventable. Natural selection is, unfortunately, going to kill a lot of people from AIDs. It's the same with other illnesses such as obesity. Anybody who dies from an obesity related illness almost definitely has nobody but themselves to blame, as it was preventable. The high prevalence of heart disease deaths in this country could be drastically reduced through a change in lifestyle. Lifestyle changes would up the average lifespan my years.

Number of indiviuals with AIDS worldwide: 40 Million (2003)
Number of deaths caused by AIDS worlwide: 12 million EVER

Number of indiviuals with cancer worldwide: 10 million PER YEAR
Number of deaths caused by cancer worlwide: 6 million in 1997 alone

Number of deaths caused by heart disease worlwide: 17 million PER YEAR

AIDS is the least of my worries.

what causes heart disease ? What do you look out for ? Is that simply bad diet/exercise, etc. ?

Looks like if a cure for cancer were found, it would throw off God's idea of population control... (not that I believe in Him).

I guess that ends the arguement... but a point I want to stress is that there definately won't be a universal cure for cancer. There are so many different pathways in which cancers act and are contracted.

Interesting. For now cancer is killing a lot more than AIDs, though aids is sure to increase.

In regards to heart disease, the numbers could be chopped at the knees if the victims of it took the right precautions. Not all, of course, but there is a high causal effect between heart disease and lifestyle.
