I think there's a genetic component there along with lifestyle.

man this is dumb we are winning the war on Aids already except in gey men which is the only group whose numbers have started to go back up.

You cannot protect yourself from many types of cancer.

Thing is Hiv/Aids is a virus, cancer is juts cells that have formed wrong and grow incorrect and very fast for the most part.

So cancer can be very different so curing it ALL is pretty much impossible. Aid/Hiv at least has a chance of being cured as it is not a natural part of the body and can be picked out.

Cancer kills more and would be best to be cured first, but aids/hiv will be much easier for the most part to do.

Of course using condoms, not sharing needles, etc... protects you from Hiv/aids. But there are going to be idiots that say "Well I know the person so we don?t need a condom..." or people that are so much a druggie they share needles etc...
I ALMOST wish there was no aids/hiv cocktail (azt, etc..). It ONLY keeps people alive longer and allows them to spread it more. Mind you MOST people do not spread it after they find out they have it, but still. Yes it sounds heartless but not as heartless as giving someone a STD or disease that is not curable.

You don't know what you're talking about. The numbers are going up amongst straight people, and african americans. Find me a gay man in this day and age that has sex without a condom. They have the big bowls in the bars, and people handing them out in the clubs.

EDIT: And I vote for AIDS, just because it's more likely that I'll get AIDS than cancer, due to a condom failure or some such incident.

Which form of cancer are we referring to? If its all forms, then AIDS is no match. It should be all forms of VD vs Cancer.

I'd vote VD, then I won't have to worry about catching anything from anyone cuz I can just go get the cure. ;)

As long as we're talking about cancer universally, in all its forms.. that gets my vote.

That's not entirely true, but I understand what you're trying to say. It's much less preventable than AIDS.

Cancer is more a biological condition than a disease. To oversimplify, it's like the genetic equivalent of copying a magnetic tape over and over again and each successive copy gets lower in quality until eventually it's not even usable.

Any normal cell will eventually become cancerous if it lives and divides long enough, or at least so says my biologist ex-gf.

Cancer, on the sole basis that I believe I can better protect myself from AIDS than I can from cancer.

AIDS is almost 100% preventable

Yeah, if you lock yourself inside a clean room and never have to eat or drink!

Or sit on a toilet seat!

Gad, if AIDS was cured can you imagine what would happen? There would probably be a new sexual revolution along with a new baby boom. Last thing the world needs is a jump in the population.

Cancer, because HIV is, for the most part, a condition that is brought upon oneself.

Yeah, I know.

I was just trying to point out that there are indeed environmental causes of cancer, too. If you breathe carcinogens all day for 20 years, you can probably expect to develop lung cancer. :p

I don't think your explination is exacty correct though. A clone is a clone, there should be no genetic degredation.. unless there is some sort of outside influence.

I'm trying to find an interesting article that was posted here a while back, kinda dealing with this subject..

If you can say that, and it's actually correct, you lead quite a debaucherous lifestyle.

Everyone saying that Aids is preventable is ignoring the multitude of children who are born in Africa with it, or get it from breast feeding. They are condemned from the moment they were conceived and can do nothing about it.

That being said, I chose cancer.

Children are always at the whim of their parents. In this case it's too bad that the parents allowed themselves to get it in the first place.

I disagree. Aids/Hiv is only 1 of MANY non-cureable stds out there.

The CDC and a lot of other health groups have a hard time getting that message across that there is more then JUST Hiv/Aids. Having a high number of partners, not using condoms, etc... will juts increase your chance of catching more then 1 Stds.

If the Africans don't die of AIDS, they'll die of starvation. It sounds harsh, but that's the status quo.
