Cancer, on the sole basis that I believe I can better protect myself from AIDS than I can from cancer.

I think an important thing to realize with AIDS is that you really don't know your partner's history. No matter what they tell you. You can be as careful as you want but if you aren't abstaining, there's no guarantee.

Cancer is, by far, a worse plight.

As long as we're talking about cancer universally, in all its forms.. that gets my vote.

this should be a no contest, AIDS is preventable, cancer is not
That's not entirely true, but I understand what you're trying to say. It's much less preventable than AIDS.

Some of us trust our spouses... didn't have it before... don't even worry about it.

Thing about cancer is... There's no way there is going to be a universal cure for all cancers... so I guess cancer is the poll answer... but if you can cure either, one kind of cancer or AIDS, i'll go for AIDS.

AIDS.
There are AIDS resistant people, but I've never heared of anyone immune to all forms of cancer. Plus, AIDS can be prevented. We're not 100% sure about the cause of cancer. There are people who live well, don't drink or smoke, etc., yet still get some kind of cancer.

I don't think it's too outlandish.

Maybe not all of them, but at least all within a certain category.. that use the same mechanisms.

Cancer, in a heart beat. AIDs has already been cured with education. If you still get it now, you didn't even give enough of a sh*t to avoid the exposure (not including rare cases of blood contamination, etc. <- these are very infrequent now).

Cancer. My 6 year-old niece currently has brain cancer, and there's nothing that NOBODY did to give it to her. :(
