looking to buy a car at the end of the summer, i know there's a few different cars in here, but i configured each the way i wanted and listed the price. for the mustang, um well i'm just going to use a 2004 config and hopefully that'll be reasonably close. i'm looking for "best bang for my buck."

TSX 5 speed auto: $29k
A4 1.8T : $30k
2004.5 S40 2.4i: $29,5k
Mazda 6s: $26k
2005 Mustang GT: $25k

Only consider the A4 if you can afford Quattro. I dare you to show me a new 2004/2005 A4 with Quattro for $30K!

Do you really want the image of a Volvo driver?
TSX...too much for what you get.

That narrows it down to the Stang or the 6. Two very different cars!

well i'm going to be in miami, so quattro on the a4 would be pretty useless. as for the "image of a volvo driver" i really couldn't care less. the new s40 looks very nice - the interior is a bit small for my taste, but overall i like it. as for your comment on the tsx, i agree and it's probably the car i'll strike out of the list the quickest.

unless you are getting the extended 5 year-100,000 mile warranty with Audi, stay away from it... I love the way they look & drive, but the crapuality .... also if you decide on A4, get Quattro. Not just for rain & snow, it helps in cornering ;)

I heard very good things about S40... Mazda 6 is a nice car, but not in the league with other IMO.

Mustang is a different story... you put it between 4 sedans, wtf?

yah, i know. it's just the retro styling and the power that got me on the mustang. it's definitely a strong contender for me right now.

Where did you get the MSRP for the TSX?!?! The Acura webpage says $26,490....IMHO, if you're going to option the TSX out to 29k, you do get more than the competition offers, and you'll have a more reliable car. Even in it's base form, the TSX does not fall short on standard features.

Go for the TSX (after all, it's the car that I will be getting this month).

First, it's made by Acura, which means it's a Honda at heart, and you know it will last forever. If I remember correctly, the first full tune-up is scheduled for 100,000 miles.

Second, for $28,500 you get a loaded car with a top-of-the-line navigation system.

Third, everyone and their mother will not have a TSX. It's hard to same the same about the Mustang and A4.

Fourth, it just looks cool for a sedan, IMO.

The only real dowside to the TSX is that it has a four cylinder engine. However, I must say, with 200HP, it is by no means a slow or wimpy engine.

If you can afford it, I would suggest the TL over the TSX. Now THAT is a sweet car.

I'd like to see some TSX vs. Mazda 3 comparisons...see if the Acura is worth the $10K premium!

Edit:

TSX
2.4L 4-cylinder
200hp@6800
166 lbs-ft@4500
3230 lbs.
$26,490 (6MT)

Mazda 3
2.3L 4-cylinder
160hp@6500
150 lbs-ft@4500
2762 lbs.
$16,405 (5MT, 4-door S)

With the stock rims it's MARGINALLY faster than a 4 banger Accord LX/EX sedan. The extra size+weight just negates the extra 40hp the TSX has over the Accord. It's still the same K24 engine with a few tweaks though.

I'd go for the Mustang out of all those.

Don't give me that BS about extra weight - the TSX is only 86 lbs heavier

I'd vote mustang, but do you really want a first year production car? From Ford? Can you wait an extra year and get the 2006 version of the GT? Have you considered the new suby legacy?

He means the wheels are heavier. The stock TSX wheels weigh almost 50 lbs each and are 17". If you're familiar with basic physics, that's a lot of rotational inertia compared to 15" steel wheels.

If you've ever seen the SCC article about gutting a sentra to make it faster, they found a .3 sec difference in the 1/4 by just changing the wheels.

If he actually read the context he'd realize I meant the wheels.

Oh yea - I was pulling up some dyno info just for my info about the TSX vs 4 banger Accord:

TSX
Accord 1
Accord 2

Our K24 sh!ts a brick at 4500 whereas the TSX has some drippage.

Back to the original topic though - the TSX is a nice car don't get me wrong - it has amenities and luxuries that few others have in the same class as standard options or otherwise - it's not a speed demon though.

Um, you know absolutely nothing about the 7th gen Accord, Euro, Japanese, or American. Please stfu until you actually learn a thing or two about what we're actually talking about. That .3 of a second means the difference between a 15.8 stock vs a 15.5 stock in the 1/4 mile.

Oh sorry, forgot your obligatory

It's funny how you had to just hijack the thread because you know nothing about what you're talking about.

You're a dumbass n00b. Have you ever been to a dragstrip? With consistent driving and no physical changes, do you have any idea how hard it is to get .3 seconds off your time??

.3 seconds is a big enough difference to get your ass quite visibly handed to you at the dragstrip, like 2-3 car lengths at the end.

We're not talking about cars that are reasonably quick to begine with. The difference will mean NOTHING in real life driving, dumbass.

Just shut up.

There is a real and significant difference but it's nothing huge.
