http://collection.nlc-bnc.ca/100/200/300/brow/religion/religion/religio8.html - "The philosophical study of religion must therefore confine itself to those systems of thought which begin with the assumption that this world has a meaning. I would like to include all views that have faith in meaning as religious. On this definition Communism, Nazism and Humanism can be studied with the other religions. In each case there is a meaning to life that is preached, there is faith in the goal that is proposed, and a system of ethics is organized round the highest good."

Oh, and I have to correct myself. Marx communism was based on orthodox, pre-Marx communism (yes, Marx only made a version of communism) was based on other religions.

Just so you know, that many Christian denominations don't consider Mormonism to be a Christian denomination. So in reality you should have three listings (or more) rather than just one.

Mormon
Christian-Catholic
Christian-Protestant

Funny... Mormonism doesn't exist. The church is called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. And it is totaly Christian. That is the entire basis of the religion. And it uses the King James version of the Bible, which is what most Christian beliefs use. The beliefs that the LDS church is not Christian spurred from a hatred in the mid to lat 1800 for the members for standing against catholocism and forming there own religion. Same thing happend to protestants at first.

I don't know whether "moronism" was supposed to be a personal comment, but whatever. As far as you saying mormonism doesn't exist, that's just a game of semantics, and I don't really feel like playing. Perhaps I should go back and tell my buddy in high school that when he told people he was mormon that he was doing it all wrong eh?

My point was, that many people would not consider LDS (happy? :)) to be Christian, and then should get it's own category. I'm not trying to dismiss it, or make a judgement call on the issue. However, you are not being totally credible when you group those all together, when there are some very critical differences between them.

That was all.

In response to "Mormons" not being Christians:

Does it really matter what other denominations think? Seriously, look at the name: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We believe in Jesus, the Son of God. If that's not Christian, then I don't know what is.

If you want to put Latter-day Saint in another category, fine. But that doesn't mean we're not Christians.

[Edit]
Capn,

What's with this "Moronism" you're talking about? I can only hope you're kidding.

Communism is NOT a religion, it is a governmental type.

actually communism is to nations as capatalism is to the US. It's not the government, but the economy type. Socialism is the government.

Actually I voted anyway. In a hostile environment such as a typical OT thread, I tend to put aside my differences with other Christians. :)

Robert, well I was just thinking about that. I have to agree with you, that if you take Christian to be follower of christ, then they are all christian. So perhaps I was incorrect in saying That LDS/Mormonism wasn't Christian. However, I still believe that there are significant differences between them that perhaps they should be listed differently. I'm not going to get up in arms about it, so if you don't feel it's necessary to change it then don't.

The "moronism" thing was questioning something Beau had said to me.
