The ones I have in mind are in the poll already... feel free to post and I'll add more.

EDIT 1: Please, no drugs.
EDIT 2: Listing the potential cost of the hobby would help too.

I'm into combat robotics, it's pretty expensive. It all depends on how 'deep' you go. Heck, trash collecting could get expensive.

Hobbies are only expensive if you make them.

But if you take all of the above, Video taping and photographing your mountain biking buddies at exotic locations and use high end computer equipment to create videos to show in your Home Theater. I guess that might get expensive.

Collections are usually more expensive than other hobbies.

Having said that, people going into crappy martial arts dojos and thiking they can hold their own in dangerous situations = most expensive hobby.

I voted for cars... even though I know nothing about cars at all. I may get into photography later (I have some interest)... we'll see how expensive that turns out.

Well, no - if they're dumbasses enough to join crap, then it's darwin at work, I say - just that all their monthly fees and equipment . . . and their PRIDE (muahahaha) when I, er, "they" routinely mock them and beat them.

Out of all those, home theater has the potential to be the most expensive. Car modification doesn't even come close.

EDIT: If you're buying racks of servers and stuff, computers might do it.

How about flying?

I was a private pilot from age 13 to 16, flew 40 hours in a Cessna 152, at about $100/hour.
