Poll: What's ATOT using for graphics? ATi, Intel or nVidia?

So what are you guys sporting these days in your computer? I don't know why, but all of my friends are still chugging away with nVidia cards, and have been hesistant to go with ATi for some dumb reason. I am no fanboy, but ATi seems cheaper for similar performance, but I could be wrong. nVidia seems more brute force though.

As for me, I just replaced my 512MB 4870 with a 1GB 4890 and now I can game a little better than I used to...lol. It wasn't as crazy a difference as I thought it would be.

Since this is ATOT, feel free to pick a team and start a good argument. I am really looking forward to seeing it.

I'm using an AMD 4870 1GB made by ASUS. It works real good. I'll be getting another one when I get some spare cash. Why would you think a 4890 would be a big improvement over a 4870? You should have gone with a crossfire configuration or an X2 if you only have 1 PCI-E slot.

I use Nvidia because I heard ATI users were all girly men with small units that would be cancelled by CBS.

It had nothing to do with the fact that when I built my computer the best graphics card deals were the semi-clearance Nvidia GTX260 for pretty darn cheap (at the time).

I'd consider ATI, but last I checked, linux support sucked balls. that was before the AMD merger. I heard AMD released some open source drivers, but who knows how good or bad they are at this stage. Nvidia's was a binary blob...but it was a blob that worked right lol.

That was a great card back then. I had 2 9800 Pro's and 1 9800XT. I think that was the end of ATi for me for a while -- I went nVidia for a long time until my 4870.

I wanted to get an 4870x2, but damn, they are still expensive. I sold my 4870 for a hundred bucks and bought my 4890 for 260 after tax. So it was only $160 lost. I wonder if my 3.2GHz Q6600 is holding me back at all.

If you want to unload your 4870 cheap, lmk (as long as it's not a Visiontek)..my Visiontek 4870 died a few weeks ago- since I'm not the original owner and I have no receipt, I'm SOL for RMA.

i voted Nvidia/ gaming, but its a work laptop so its used for programming/ graphics way more than it is for gaming. but, you didnt have a choice for that

Not at all. A 4890 is just an overclocked 4870 -- I bought the card pretty much because I wanted a 1GB card since I run a recockulous resolution now. (2048x1152)

It made no sense to buy a 4870 1GB, when the 4890 isn't much more expensive.

I am running a 4870 Tri-Fire setup (VisionTek 4870X2 + Sapphire 4870 1Gb) right now, and pretty much all the machine is used for at this moment is playing videos and music, since there are no games out right now that interest me.

The warranty period is still in effect? Call them up. In all of the hardware I've ever RMA'd, I never had to produce a receipt. What could it hurt? Thats a damned nice card to leave lying around.

WTF, you can mix and match them? I would have held on to my 4870 if I knew that. (Although, I would need a new mobo.)

EDIT: I guess you can't do 4870 + 4890, I misread your post.

I'm using an ASUS (ATi) 4870 512MB in my main PC and an eVGA 8800GT in my media PC (overkill... been thinking about replacing it with a smaller, quieter solution). I've also been thinking about replacing the 512MB version with a 1GB version as I play two WoWs at once (no comments necessary) and it's a huge RAM hog.

I have no qualms with ATi, but I've been noticing an increase in graphic anomalies/glitches or freezes lately. Who knows.
