ATi to do things like my graphics work, though it's being used a lot for casual gaming like L4D and TF2. Fun games. Still waiting for HL: Episode 3, though.

Ati - other. My main pc has a 4850, second pc has a 9800pro, third and fourth have integrated graphics. Main pc gets used for everything, second plays music and video, third is (placed) for internet browsing basically, and the fourth is mostly a print server.

lol, I have a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 HT in my work computer, and an 8800GT. That is lopsided lol. It's funny how Portal looks choppy when I launch it -- I thought it would have been enough.

x800 xl for the past...4 years?

maybe need to update soon? :(

I haven't been in the video forums for some time, but I remembered it being the nV people who were craziest, no? Or does it just rotate every 2 years based on which company is losing the performance race?

There's a core group of fanboys for each side that comes up with a new criticism or one-liner insult to throw at the company they don't like every month or two. The most recent one among nV-haters is that nVidia is evil for renaming the 9800GTX+ as the GTS 250 because it's misleading. The worst of them go so far as to use that as a reason not to buy the card even if it's a good deal.

Yeah. Because of the name.

To be fair, there are weirdos who hate ATI as well. But since the nV camp is smaller (at the moment), they seem to be a lot more paranoid. Rather than directly leveling criticism at ATI graphics cards, they'll just accuse anyone and everyone who prefers ATI cards as being yet another rabid fanboy.

But yeah, for now, ATI has more fans. At least here at AT. In a year that may change.

Nvidia currently. 8800GTS 320 MB at home, although I game far less than I used to.

7300GS 512 MB at work. (I have absolutely no need for a discrete video card on my work machine, but it was in there when I started, so I'm not complaining. Beats shitty Intel graphics.)

My previous home PC had a Radeon 9200 SE (lol, I didn't know it was teh "sucker edition" at the time :p).

8800GTX for almost 2 years now. Don't see any reason to upgrade any time soon, so I have no idea what my next card will be.

I have a friend that refuses to buy nVidia because they bought out Voodoo :p

I know a guy like that too! Except the company's name was 3dfx. Voodoo was their series of graphics cards.

But yeah, he's still mad at nVidia for buying 3dfx. I remember him encouraging me to buy a previous-generation Radeon 9800 XT for $300 when I could get the much faster GeForce 6800 for $270 (this was in the middle of 2004).

I have a nVidia GeForce 7600GT. I use it for gaming (mostly Left 4 Dead) and video.
I think that card has the best performance-price-longevity ratio of any card I've used.

ATI MR X1600 in my laptop. Supports my light gaming needs, but not doesn't do much else except eat into my battery time.

Radeon HD4870 - 512MB

Coming up on a year old soon, working great for what I do. TF2 and WoW mostly.

I've got an EVGA 9800 GTX (nVidia) that is used as my gaming machine. I don't game much, but it was nice when it first came out with the latest gen. games. With the birth of my second daughter, I've probably put about 2 hours into gaming since January :( Otherwise it is used (lightly) for HTPC duties on and off.

Used to have a Radeon 4830 but after numerous crashes even with swapping out the card I returned it and got a Geforce 9600GSO. No more crashes.

I have ATI, and I game. It doesn't really matter though. nVidia and ATI are near same in performance.

Video cards are mostly similar. Drivers really aren't issues anymore, I've used Nvidia and ATI over the history of the brands for the past 8(TNT2, Geforce 2, Radeon 8500 Radeon 9800, 7900GTX, X1950, HD4870) years and really, whatever is best bang for the buck in the mid-range gaming market is what I go for. I currently have a ATI HD4870 1GB and it's great. Awesome performance, great drivers, and best value for the money at the time I bought it in the ~$225 segment.

All things being equal, I'd go ATI to support the underdog and keep competition alive, otherwise, go for whichever has the advantage.\

If you go into the Video forums, its is a 80-20 ratio of whackjobs to rational, reasonable individuals

Fixed.

KT

Maybe I should go in there and see if I can't alter that ratio a little.

Trying to make it 81-19? :D

KT

Gotta start somewhere.

I used to frequent video forums a lot and the IMO Nvidia fanboys are a lot more vocal, annoying and combative about their product. They lost a lot of goodwill from me because of the stealth marketing from Rollo back before 2005. Even nowadays, nRollo, troll that he is instigated many, many flame wars until he was banned and Wreckage got a thread in PC gaming that turned into a heated argument in a forum that rarely sees uncivilized behavior like that.
