Wrong. In all states, the driver already established in their lane has the legal right-of-way. If you attempt to force your cutting in, the accident would be your fault. Back o' the queue, mate!

I don't think people will ever learn that if everyone just merges in early, going at 70mph, then they can get through the rest of the roadworks at the same speed. It's the people that go all the way to the last possible time, THEN try to cut in, that make the whole line slow down, causing the bigger tailbacks

I tend to leave space in front for a car or 3, but i'm always surprised that there are people who will ignore the huge gap i've left, and try to push in later, often getting in AFTER i've gone past them already!

I sometimes cut in, but I never go to the front and wait to get in. Most of the time, I just drive through the city if there is construction, though. Its most likely easier than dealing with highway drivers acting like they are downtown.

I get in line as soon as I can. I try to be in the correct lane as soon as I know what the road is going to do. I hate the people that go all the way up to the front and then expect to get in in front of me. No way those morons are getting in front of me.

yes u are correct but how many people want to be involved in a car accident and then deal with insurance company and bodyshop to get the car repair.

All of you are suckers! The lane is clear for 3 miles ahead and you've already all merged. I'll save myself that half an hour of waiting and just cut in at the front. I figured there'd be more people like me on AT, I guess I Was wrong. Have fun seeing me fly by you and get to where I'm going 30 minutes sooner.

When you and your insurance company are the ones paying for it all? "Original pre-accident condition," it's the law. Enjoy.

Ever heard the saying, nice guys finish last? Well that would be all of you people who wait... and so what, if one person doesn't let me in, eventually some idiot will. Overall when u are let in, you'll be waaaaaay far ahead of the passive people who waited in line. And I'll still save myself a half hour in the process while you're picking your nose 25 cars back behind the tractor trailers cursing at people like me under your breath b/c u don't have the balls to get ahead in life. Suckers :D

Further evidence that a "safe" society is a rude society.

depends. if its extremly long, ill go for the cut, but i only do it in area's i know well, like i know exactly what to expect in the gap, the location of the lane and where it breaks, take all the factors into consideration. if the line is short, ill wait a few minutes and dont let nobody in. there's been times where cars have tried to cut in front of me at a freeway merge, and if its short, ill box em out, there's been a few times where they just got frustrated and drove up to the next exit. only problem is, the location in my mind, the exit will take you a longer 20-25 minutes. usually though theres cops posted up by the exit or an overpass watching the merge to see if anyone cuts, and then he'll pick em' off. if your going to cut, at least cut in a large gap and watch out for 5-0! so, im kinda torn in my decision. can go either way.

Some poor woman tried to ride through a fourway stop sign on the tail of the car in front of her thinking she could take my turn. I tore the side of her car off while popping a small piece of rubber off my bumper. She tired to get me to pay, but that didn't work either.

Naturally such happiness has calmed me down. I'm more of the opinion, now, that people shouldn't have to pay the price to fanatics like me. I experiment with things like total curtesy, letting people in when they want in, helping them get over when they want, stopping for people crossing the street, stopping to wait for a cat that's hiding under a car to cross, etc. Allowing myself to be a bit insane helps to tame it a bit I think.

Idealy I wish I were completely unconscious of the two kinds of drivers.

My buddy moved to Oregon and had to stop cutting in because he was the only one in the entire neighborhood where he lived that was doing it. :D Peer pressure and a lack of anonymity work wonders. We have to find out how to be our own public sinceit's us who really hates us the most for how we are.

Man I could not agree more. Here they come up the on-ramp doing 65 not even looking in the lane they're about to merge in, driving parallel to everyone else until they run out of on-ramp so they have to slow down to 35 and other people have to move to the other lane b/c they can't comprehend and calculate speed. Do they even give driver's tests anymore?

I drive an old car and am probably gonna get a new one by the end of the year. I plan to retire my current car in one of 2 ways. 1.) Large insurance settlement by slamming on my brakes to 'avoid hitting an animal in the road' while being tailgated. Or trade-in. I'm leaning toward the former method because I get tailgated a lot and I can make some money while I'm at it ;)

Xzero, just watch out got God's sense of humor. He might get a kick out of somebody like you trying to pull a fast one by locking up your seat belt and exploding your gas tank. The trade in option's the one I'd go with. Do the other stuff in your mind. :D I want to install a skunk juice spray from my exhaust for tailgaters. :D
