then they really have the change the team's name to New York Hispanics (no offense to anybody of that nationality) but seriously, i'm sure ppl have tried to ignore this topic but it would be the last straw if Sosa came onboard.

I'm very tired of people complaining about all the players coming in are hispanic. So what.. i know you said you didn't mean to offend but does it make a difference anyway?? Why does anyone even think about the ethnicity of any player? Also, name some high quality free agents who are not hispanic and I mean the quality of a Beltran, Delgado..etc. The Mets also signed Benson, DeJean, Kerry Robinson (decent 4th outfielder), Marlon Anderson (minor league deal) and a few others who are all non-hispanics. Its not Omar's fault some of the best players in MLB are hispanic and it makes no difference either.

i personally like Vance Wilson behind the plate i think his potential is very high.

I like Vance as well, but he talked too much sometimes and he is not an everyday catcher as was shown a couple years ago when Piazza was out for months. He should do well in Detroit but I'm sure doesn't like the fact that he's still a backup.

Whats going on with Mo Vaughn these days? Is he still on the payroll or did he retire?

Guess he's retired. He is off the Mets payroll. Who knows if he'll dare to attempt a comeback or not.

if mets sign Delgado, i think they should make an attempt to sign Olreud as well. After all he was part of that AMAZING 1999 Mets, where the infield was practically perfect defensive-wise

he also holds the Met's best Batting Avg all Time

Mo Vaughn and Robbie Al ... IMO worst pick ups. E. Alfonzo was a much better 2nd basemen for the Mets.

yeah but i bet you werent saying that about robbie at the time everyone thought that was a huge steal for the mets, i didnt hear anyone say that the mets got screwed on that one at the time

Vaughn is a different story...

EVERYONE said the Alomar deal was amazin' (pardon the pun). Every Mets fan was so estatic to have a future hall of famer on the team who just came off another fantastic year in Cleveland. Nobody could have ever imagined that he would stink up the place in a Bobby Bonilla fashion. It was one of the most infuriating things I have ever seen. He was so worthless at the plate and the field and looked like he didn't give a damn.

As for Vaughn..it was easy to predict his fate. Why the hell they signed that meatball based on some batting cage demonstation is beyond me.

Either way you look at it, race does in fact play a role in who Minaya can get. The fact that Pedro and Minaya were both from the DomRep was a huge factor in Pedro's decision (dinner, and it was clear that he felt more comfortable with Minaya. Hence, once Minaya gets into a player's head, he is very persuasive and nobody can deny he was a prime factor in these signings...

Oh. .I certainly understand that. I think thats a plus that Minaya can have that effect on a fellow latino. Thats a huge plus and also he is very charasmatic. Duquette and Steve Phillips were such bores (I do like Duquette but he's not so interesting to listen to). Omar also has connections with others and even just had dinner with Pres. Bush. Go omar!!

Also, I mean the fan reaction in regards to this so called "hispanics only" signing fest. Some fans are talking out of their ass with stupid racial comments. That is what is annoying me to no end. What Omar is doing is great so far and he recognizes that he still has work to do.

Piazza will have more protection around him this upcoming season with Beltran, Floyd, Wright..etc. I think Piazza will be much better than the past 2 years though I know its not saying a whole lot.
Well that and it's a contract year for Piazza... Beltran can tell you all about it. 😉

C=Piazza?, SS=Reyes?, 2nd=Matsui?, 1st=Delgado?, 3rd=?

C= Piazza \ Phillips as backup
1st= I hope Delgado..if not then Olerud.
2nd= Kaz Matsui
3rd= David Wright

backup infielders = Miguel Cairo, Andres Galarraga, Eric Valent..etc.

haha Olerud back to Mets?

Yankees made a mistake in letting him go

Olerud has expressed interest and some desire to come back to the Mets, so I suppose that it's possible that he may return. However he is fairly old and both his offensive and defensive skills have declined so much that he will not even be a solid starting 1B.
