Major suck.

With gas prices so high, why are they still considered a fad? (this doesn't include the people that actually USE his or her SUVs)

suck

my relatives who own suv's are desparate to get rid of them cause they spend 50 bucks a week in gas. I think they look cool, but they're just too impractical and have become a status symbol.

my civic runs for 2 weeks on 15 bucks :)

btw, why have some of you bagged on honda's? theyre great cars.

fett:

thats the dumbest thing ive heard. im neither jealous nor poor. I think people who spend 50 bucks a week on gas just so they can have the "cool" car of the moment are stupid, including my relatives. none of them have a "real" reason to buy an suv. they dont own a boat, a trailer or go offroading. and they all admit their mini-vans were better to haul their kids around in.

typical american "I gotta have the same thing my friends do so I can be cool too" mentality. they're all sheep.

Actually, the dumbest thing would be your absolute failure to understand the use of the Shift key.

Whatever happened to people being able to buy or do things they enjoy? It seems that nowadays you can't do or purchase anything without others jumping down your throat claiming "you don't need it" or "it's wasteful." Since when did personal decisions become a target for public opinion. Why don't people mind their own damn business?

unless you own a geo metro, you have absolutley no room to critisize anyone else's vehicle. I do however believe that suv drivers (myself included) should have to make a special license to drive them. as far as being a danger to other cars, take a look at other heavy vehicles, caddys, beamers, benzes..these are also quite deadly. BTW, my blazer has recently received it's 8" lift and the 40" super swampers are on it right now...guess what, i've taken pretty sharp turns to avoid morons in hondas and audis and haven't flipped it or my jimmy (6" lift, 38" mickey's). It all depends on how you drive the vehicle, mind you my center of gravity is way way higher than your average off the lot suv..

Most of the people who drives SUVs around here are: ~35 yrs old ladies, college girls, and guys who dresses like VP/CEOs.

I doubt they need it to haul anything, or even off roading.

Most of the guys either:
1. Drive a truck. F150, Ram, or F350 for bigger towing.
2. Drive some old jeep (wrangler, etc) for off roading.

That's why SUVs suck.

<< Hah, in that case i hope the priceof gas just keeps going up wahahah! >>

What else do you expect?? Yes, maybe some weeks the prices are a few cents lower, but ultimately gas prices will always increase.

When something becomes more rare, demand equal or higher, price will rise.

This is why SUVs suck the most. Damn, if you want status, just go buy a benz or something. At least they have better MPGs.

and, Boberfett:
no I'm not jealous of SUVs. I like small cars, not the big ones.

<<guys who dresses like VP/CEOs.>>

Lupin, you are too intelligent to judge what people do or how they live based on what they wear to work.

jeep is the largest producer of crap out there today... another great thing about owning an suv is the look that car owners give when they are pulled over on the highway because their car keeps sliding around on the ice, or when they die in about a foot of standing water and you drive right by them and give them a nice splash. and what about the gas mileage of big ass cars, usually right down there with suvs..

It seems the only people b!tching are the ones with small inexpensive cars.Hey drive what you can afford. But don't tell us what we should drive.

BoberFett. I agree.

I don't think so considering I got long hair, wear jeans and work in a factory.

1. I can afford an suv, I CHOOSE a smaller car.
2. I wouldnt tell you what to drive, BUT what you drive does affect me. since alot of americans have jumped on the "gas-sucking" car trend, gas prices have shot through the roof because we consume more oil now than ever before to power your 5 mi/pergal suv's.

that affects me and I dont like it and i'll b*tch about it I want to.

<<Have you ever towed anything that a car couldn't?
Used it off road?>>

Yes, and yes, frequently.

<<Tipped a minivan?
I hate most FWD myself, but given a RWD and a FWD vehicle with the exact same setup, the RWD vehicle *should* wheelie more and quicker>>

Wrong. A trailer loads the back of the vehicle, which makes FWD more likely to have traction problems. Minivans can't tow anything significant anyway. If you tow over 1000lbs or so with a minivan, you're crazy, regardless of what the owner's manual claims it can tow.

<<because we consume more oil now than ever before to power your 5 mi/pergal suv's.>>

Name an SUV that gets 5 mpg. Nevermind, you can't.

You really believe that SUVs are responsible for the recent increases in gas prices? Get real. You think that the a fraction of the american public driving cars that consume more gas impacts the price of petroleum that much? Get a clue.

<< There is only one true reason that SUV's are villified (sp). Class-envy. >>

Not really. I can afford to get one, but I don't see the point for myself, since I'm a city driver and don't haul stuff around. SUVs definitely make sense for those people who are hauling equipment or boats, etc. or need to drive through the bush. People like me have no problem with this. No, we have a problem with the yuppie wannabes who buy them to drive around the city. It bugs me that these are purchased as a status symbol, while some of us try to be more responsible with fuel usage, etc. It bugs me even more that my future purchase "subsidizes" a yuppie SUV purchase, because I think the car giants only need to have an average fuel economy across their various models. Ie. I buy an economy car, which allows Joe Wannabe to buy a gas-guzzling SUV to put his golf clubs in.

It's bizarre. I was in the car dealership the other day looking at a smaller car (which I like better for handling over a SUV and simply because I don't need more). The sales guy introduced me to another customer who was in my field. When I told him I wanted a small car, he was totally shocked because I could afford a more expensive one. WTF? Buy an expensive car, just because you can... Huh?

SUVs are definetely great vehicles. Let me see how you can fit 6 of your friends in your Honda Accord and tow a boat behind you? You can't!
If someone people doesn't use SUV for their purpose, that is their problem. It's like old guys who're buying Ferrari just to drive 35mph on the city roads. I really don't care, as long as my 4Runner does for me what I need it to do.

ok, I was exageratng a little, suv's get about 14 mi/gal. still a far cry from my 37.

but, more americans driving + more americans driving gas-guzzling cars = more oil consumption = fact.

drive whatever you want, just dont expect me to pat you on the back about it.

<< more americans driving + more americans driving gas-guzzling cars = more oil consumption = fact. >>

Agreed, but is not a major factor in the price of oil recently. That's due more to OPEC controlling the supply. Also many other forms of petrol consumption- planes, large trucks, heating, other forms.
