I'm not too fond of them, but I don't think they suck either. It'd be nice if people who didn't need them didn't buy them. And they should be subject to the same regulations as cars (IE, fuel usage, emissions, etc).

SUV's are suck. People who drive them drive like maniacs... they constantly speed and drive erraticly as if they're on some soccer mom power trip. Whenever i see one i wish it would flip over. I consider people who drive SUV's and hondas assholes. Ever notice people driving hondas also drive like retards? Even bone stock civics, people drive them like ferraris... i want to smash them everytime i have to share the road with those cocks.

SUV's are NOT off road vehicles anymore. They are the replacement for the station wagon. Why does everyone necessarily assume that they are only for rock climbing? There is only one true reason that SUV's are villified (sp). Class-envy. In fact, now that I think of it, most disputes in this country can be traced to envy. Envy over money, envy over education, envy over class... hell, envy over women.

Dateline's report was crap.
1. Anyone with an IQ of 85 or above is gonna know that they roll if you take a corner too fast. You can't drive SUV's like a little compact. I personally drive our JGC like a sports car, and I never have any problems.
2. Their rollover stats are warped. A higher percentage of SUV crashes are rollovers, but there are far more car accidents than SUV accidents. They never make that distinction. its like saying 3/5 are rollovers for SUV's, while 20/100 are rollovers for cars... but they only give percentages (these are obviously exaggerated numbers).

If they are worried about safety, ban these little tinfoil cars (Neons, Miatas, BMW sissy roadsters - James Bond car, etc.). Even in a simple pick-up, I often find that if I were to look down for a second, and one would pull out in front of me, I could crush it and not even notice.

It comes down to common sense (a trait that I am afraid most of society lacks).

They are suck!! they are petrol thirsty and dangerous. Because they are so high and heavy they will cause much more damage to regular cars in a crash than would be the case in a crash between two regular cars. For peole living in the outback they are necessary, but just how many of these monsters will ever see a dirt road?

Boy, futuramatic is the kind or person driving those things that i wish would flip over so he'd come to his senses. If you're such a truck lover, move down south. I'd say 99 percent of the time, these lunchbox's drive on the freeway to the mall, that's it. It's not class envy, it's common sense... i'd rather buy a brand new BMW or Audio A8 for the price of a plasticy, unresponsive Jeep or Navigator. There's no comparison. If I didn't need to carry lots of stuff around or go hunting, I'd agree with you. But given the choice between cargo hauling and smooth handling, I'll take cargo hauling any time.

okay, I can understand the verbal violence in the god threads and even in the gun control threads, but I am seeing just way too much vehemence here. They are friggin vehicles people! I drive a Wrangler, why do I drive it? Because I love it. I like it enough to take the noise, crappy mileage and exaggerated cost. That is my desision. Of course they are overpriced, because people will pay for them. Of course they get crappy mileage, because they are huge and heavy. Of course very few people actually need the benefits they offer, but tell me, are you advocating that all vehicles are governed so they do not exceed speed limits???? That is where your argument is going. If you don't like them, don't buy them. If you absolutely hate them, then don't buy anything made by a manufacturer that makes them, but don't ever call me stupid for driving one and don't ever imply that I am trying to impress people by driving one! Otherwise, I will drive back and forth in front of your house, burning up ozone layer, until a tire blows out and I roll through your living room window...........

As for your BMW or Audi... Those are not status symbols? Those are not glorification of yourself? For HALF the cash you would waste on one of those cars I could build a better responsive, higher perfoming car without breaking a sweat. Hell I probably own one right now. A SUV is obviously not for you, but that does not mean that they do not serve a legitimate function for others.

They are not as dangerous as you lead on. I don't want to retype it, but here is a point I made in a previous thread.

If your window is at bumper level, then your car is too low to the ground. I can not think of an SUV that has its bumper higher than mid-thigh on me, and I am only 6'2&quot;. If an SUV is going to kill you in an accident, it is going to be due to sheer force. A car or truck can inflict the same damage. The difference is that an SUV will survive the crash. And you know what? I bet that pisses a lot of people of. Some people get out of a car after an encounter with an SUV, and they are pissed that they had their car smashed, but the SUV can drive away. Again, no logical arguement here.

Semi-trucks kill more people per year than SUV's, yet they are not banned.

For the last FREAKING time (damn the language filters), SUV does NOT mean off road! Sport Utility Vehicle! Where does it say off-road? Their roots were based in off-road vehicles, but things CHANGE! The first car was built to run on dirt roads, but today's cars are made primarily for a paved surface.

Please excuse the outburst, but I have a hard time accepting people telling me what I should do or own, and how I should utilize my property.

Tipped a minivan?
I hate most FWD myself, but given a RWD and a FWD vehicle with the exact same setup, the RWD vehicle *should* wheelie more and quicker.
