Here is one article. I places the rate in Men at about 28%. And yes to answer your question there are many forms of HPV and some are more *curable* than others. Curable meaning the warts themselves do not return, but the person is still a carrier and can pass it along to their partner unwittingly. HPV is far more dangerous for women overall though. And no, it doesnt cause sterilty, but in some cases can cause cancer in women, provided it is one of the harsher strains of HPV.

Same - Same, but I can't find anything on that statistic itself, but I do know that about that many of the people I know in Los Angeles have been treated for it. :(

The statistic I usually hear is 1/3 people have HPV, though I often hear much higher than that.
It gets treated? I thought it was something you just lived with and didn't know about, and may or may not cause sterility after a while if a bad case develops.

For some reason I was thinking of cool old sigs & thought of SHUX last week... Welcome back, and sorry about the whole marriage thing dude, sh1t happens:(

Anyway, the % of men in the article that tested + for HPV were from a population of men that presented to a STD clinic.

Prob seriously skewed the results & %'s.

HPV is damn nasty though, be careful everyone. Worst I can imagine is I've heard about it spreading in the mouth, nose & throat.

what do you think is the most disgusting STD?

the one where your junk falls off :frown:

Left untreated, I believe syphilis can be the worst. When the nurse came by to give us all a lecture on the subject, she showed a picture of a woman whose face was eaten away by the disease. Yuck...

Syphillis will make you go crazy and it will eventually kill you, I think. King Somebody died from it. Facts about Syphilis

Hitler had a severe case and would have died from it had he not killed himself.

Hitler had syphilis? I did a little Googling on this, but it appears to have been just a rumor that has never been substantiated. However, syphilis does attack your brain eventually and causes dementia, which could possibly explain a lot. I did read elsewhere that he did have Parkinson's disease in the last years of his life, which may have killed him eventually.

herpes is nothing. there are actually eight herpesviruses including the one that causes chicken pox, which I think is the worst of all. HSV 1 and 2 are probably quite aggravating, but aside from the psychological distress, really pose no serious health problems and too widespread and normal for the attachment of any existing stigmas. HPV is strain dependent. Some strains can cause malignancies, particularly in the cervix of women. Annual pap smears can generally spot these before major problems erupt. Warts can be extremely nasty, but as I understand, most people with HPV never get them.
I think Syphilis and Gonnorhhea are the worst. Bacteria always have the most disgusting sequelae of infection.
