Being just past my mid-20's I'm in need to replace my "college" car. I've always liked the Saab 9-2x station wagon, and am considering a "slightly used" Linear (non-turbo) with manual. My family on the other hand is strongly against this - they think station wagons aren't cool, and they really want me to get into an Acura TSX instead.

I don't think so, but do you guys think station wagons are "old people cars?"

no..... even when I see a 'pimped out' station wagon I still think it's an old person's car...like someone's grandma bought it just because it was hot pink or something.

The older ones with the fake wood paint jobs aren't cool, but later model wagons are alright.

I have a 98 Volvo V70 T5.... It's got a 240hp turbocharged engine. 0-60 in 7.3 seconds. Not bad for a brick.

Depends which station wagon. I like the look of a station wagon - plus, you get the extra space to carry more crap/people with the fuel economy and size of a car.

Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon here. Great car. Handles well with upgraded swaybars and is actually pretty quick. Hauls an amazing amount of stuff in the back. I highly recommend Volvo wagons.

edit: oh and for demographics, I'm a single male homeowner in his 30s

When I think station wagon, I either think 80s wood panel, or I think Colorado yuppie toting ski equipment to Vale.

They're great cars IMO - plenty of space and handling isn't bad at all. You'll get a lot of utility out of them and I can't stress that enough.

Also, you're the one buying it, right? If so, while the opinion of your family is great, it's ultimately your choice. I'm not sure I'm a fan of saab, especially a non turboed one, but in general, I like station wagons for the reasons I already listed.

What about this?

Link

New 'crossover' from Ford, based on the Ford Fairlane concept car.

Looks kinda nifty. Little boxy but has some interesting features like an optional fridge(kinda quirky but could be useful for long trips). Has that optional vista roof like the Edge and that Ford Sync Entertainment system deal they worked out with microsoft...

It's like any other vehicle. Some of them look great, while others look like crap. Personally, I prefer them or a hatchback. They offer a lot of the same utility (storage) as an SUV, but you still get the same mileage as a car.

I voted "cool"....but..... The normal definition of cool is retarded, and the retardo dumbass version of "cool" does not include station wagons.

Personally, I love wagons. Most of the utility of an SUV, and most of the performance of a sedan.

I say cool, depending on which wagon. I've always liked the Volvo wagons, and the BMW wagons. Subaru wagons are cool as well.

Not. I hate how they look, even the new ones. Just something about the length; you're not a beast of a pickup, and not quite compact, you make me sick;).
