I would think all those hills you have there would make a standard a pain as well. It really depends on the car for me. No reason to have a standard in a mini van but a sports car would not seem right with an auto. The bottom line for me is my wife cannot drive a standard so I get automatics.

Have an auto and a stick.

I drive the auto on long trips, driving into the city or when with the kids, the stick when I'm by myself, short distances or driving the twisties.

Auto on two vehicles, standard on the third.

My Farmall M is a standard as well.

My future wife will drive a manual transmission. She doesn't need to prefer them, but she will know how, even if I need to do some teaching. It's not that hard, and I'm not going to be buying an auto for myself just so my wife will "be able" to drive my car.

I picked male / standard but I actually own and drive both. My Preference is the option I picked. If I was in stop/go traffic everyday, I'd prefer auto, but, in any other conditions I prefer the standard.

Male, auto. The auto tranny is so much easier for rush hour driving. I sit in traffic every afternoon home from work and the auto makes it easy to do. If I still lived out in the country I would have gotten the standard, but for city driving auto just makes more sense.

Heh, 2.5 years for me, because I trashed it. Then 4 years on my Camaro, then 5 on my CRX. I sit in far too much traffic now to go back. I'll stick with the tiptronic.
