I want to be independent from the nation and create my own kingdom too. Why not others let me alone?

I dunno when it started to turn that way. I think it's when Red Dawn brought up George Bush and i repeated it again in my earlier postings.

Ok, I am going to be the one that says it(as if someone else will). Ralph Nader is a god. Sure, he wouldn't have had the best abilities to deal with foreign affairs, but atleast you know he is the people's man. Oh yeah, I also voted for Mel Carnahan(the dead governor of Missouri), his Republican opposition is a tad on the nutty side.

Would you rather have crap from China? China makes plastic toys, DOA electronics. If US import shampoo from China, Rogaine sales will triple. What's the underlying cause of this? Communism. People aren't rewarded for their extra effort in their work, hence nil.

US is interested in the Chinese market. 1 billion people to buy Big Macs. There are people from China coming to US for education or work, still in denial, supporting unification of China and Taiwan. Despite the unwieldy government, Taiwan strives to find a niche in the global market and to improve upon themselves.

The "Chinese" who supports the takeover, not unification, have the same mentality as the officials in China. They can't get anything done on their own, therefore looking elsewhere. Brainwash, nonsense, and it's immature. How obvious when one can remember as a kid, it's called bringing up old issues or bullying.

On with the handcounts. Whoever gets elected won't get enough credibility with lukewarm support. It's going to be one slow 'ss 4-year term for these guys.

oh, another thing, regard to one person above, said Taiwanese should be called Chinese, like people from Hong-Kong.
I TOTALLY Disagree with that, true same origin, however, WHY DO WE CALL CANADIAN CANADIAN? and American AMerican? SImply!!!! Because they are two different countries!! Same thing applies to British~~ IDIOT! Are you going to call American Canadian? Of course NOT!
Therefore, Taiwan is a independ country, so, the citizen should be called Taiwanese.

jackc: hmmm.... lets put the chinese/taiwanese thing in proportion to the average redneck terms. For example, pretend the American Civil War happened 50 years ago. However, instead of the South conceding to the North after getting a giant a$$-whooping, they decided to retreat (taking all the national wealth), take over haiwaii, and fortify it for the next 50 years. Oh and since a superpower thought that the Southern cause of slavery was right, they decide to protect the hawaiian islands from Northern attacks. So for the next 50 years, the Southerns decided to call their new homeland The Republic of Hawaii and themseleves hawaiians. Now would some people in the contential US be kinda pissed that their enemy would do this? So, next time when you want to write about international affairs, try to type with two hands so more blood is in your head.

People... I think you guys dislike/hate China for the obvious reason that they are Communist. That I understand... their social and economic system is different from ours (for those who are from the states). I was born and raised here in the states, so I sort of consider myself an outsider on this topic. My father is from China, my mother from Malaysia, her parents were from China. Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that people living in Hong Kong and Taiwan have ancestors in China, everyone belongs to the same group.

I would hate to see China and Taiwan officially break up. Instead, I'd like the current status to remain until China breaks out of this Communist rut (Believe me, things are changing... my father conducts business in China, and you guys might not believe from all the news and what not you hear about China, but the Chinese government is changing. Afterall these things take time). Anyway, hopefully in the near future, China's government will start shaping up into a democracy and hopefully then, will China and Taiwan unify. Look at what democracy has done for Taiwan and Hong Kong. If Chinese officials can't see that you will benefit from a democratic government then they shouldn't be ruling. It just takes time for the old guard to be completely gone and for the new guard to come in... I'd hate to see a separate Chinese nation...

And about the comments about bombing this and bombing that... it pisses me off. I know you guys are kidding, but some people take it personally... ;) Anyway, you guys were probably directing it at the Communist government and not the people as a whole.

Every nation gets its day in the sun... for the past hundred years or so, it seems as though the United States has been the top dog. It's a cycle, one nation takes the top, then another and so on... perhaps in another hundred years or so it'll be China's turn again... but damn the commies... they can't do nothing right...

Being a Chinese (i won't say where i'm from, but suffice it to say i'm not from the mainland), i would say unite back with China. It will eventually happen, because they ARE chinese (despite what you want to call yourself jackc20_00).

Every industrialized nation needs certain metropolitan cities to help jumpstart and spread economic progress... kinda like a port where the rest of the world deals with. For example, US has New York (and a lot more i know), France has Paris, Britan has London, Japan has Tokyo, Canada has Toronto, etc, etc. China already has Hong Kong, but being a nation that's quite a bit behind the rest of the industrialized world, they need more, and Taiwan can be one of those cities (province, Taipei would be the city).

And don't think China is trying to leech and rob Hong Kong (and Taipei if they unify). They're not dumb, they know that Communism doesn't work, and they know that capitalism is the future. They're just not as stupid as the Russians. Most of the western world still believes that Hong Kong was a victim and was forced back to China. They may not have had a choice, but most of Hong Kong wanted to return to China. My entire family celebrated the day it happened, and so did all my other Chinese friends, Hong Kong or not.

The protests that did occur in Hong Kong were VERY small if you'd seen the footage, and they weren't protesting the handover to China, they were protesting in hopes that China would keep their word and allow Hong Kong economic freedom and continued rights they had under the colony (HK was never a democracy... Britian always ruled it without the Chinese voice, it was only in 1992 that they allowed HK to become a democracy, 5 yrs before the handover), which they have. All the western world thought that there would be a huge exodus of Hong Kong businesses, but VERY few left.

So yeah, i believe that Taiwan should and will return to China. It's not a matter of IF, but WHEN. When? In about 10 years i bet, and at most 20. Taiwan is just watching to see if China has kept their word and allowed HK to continue being HK.

As for believing that Communism will continue much longer in China... bah. I think most people in China, including the Central Committee and Politburo, know it's coming to an end. China is just aware enough to know it won't happen overnight. There's almost 1.4 billion people in China... if China's government had fallen like Russia, imagine the chaos. I actually admire the fact that the Politburo didn't take the Russian's route and rape China and leave it in disarray, like what the politicians of the Soviets did.

LOL, ur ignorance is killing me!! What is Ah-Bian CSB's (President of the island of Taiwan, a.k.a. Formosa) official title? Let me type the words in bold for ya,
PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA!!!

Using ur logic what would those people on the island of Taiwan be called?? Do I hear Chinese? Hehehehehe!

BTW u can't really be that ignorant not to know that Hong Kong was returned to the hands of the mainland Chinese (citizens of People's Republic of China) on July 1, 1997!! Since it is China now, again, using ur logic, what would the residents of Hong Kong be called? Do I hear Chinese again?

HAHAHAHAHA, u really crack me up! :p

"The_Wildcard....bull shxt! Sooner or later the Communists will leech out anything good that still exists in Hong Kong...it is going to take awhile, but it WILL happen!

This is my only concern with the US tradeing with China. I'm afraid that economic concerns might outweigh our best interest in maintaining Democracy in the region. Possibly, it is a calculated risk. Communism never works so maybe the economic influence might overcome the politcal influence but I fear we might just sacrifice Taiwan in the process..."

I've got news for you Tom China is not communist, so that factor is irrelevant.

China is in fact a totalitarian dictatorship (that just so happens to label itself communist) just like many US allies are dictatoships (like Saudi Arabia & Kuwaite) or were (like Pinochets Chile).

BTW, if its in the US's interest to maitain democracy, why did the CIA overthrow the democratic elected govt of Salvador Allende & replace him with the murderous dictator, Pinochet?

The simple fact is the US would rather have murderous thugs running countries than democratically elected leaders who stand up to the bullying of the US.

Anyway, enough ranting. Lets get back on topic. The simple fact is China's just about the most corrupt country in the world & just about all its bureaucrats & leaders are in the pockets of the huge Taiwanese conglomerates that are opening factories across China (just about every product that's labeled 'made in Taiwan' is either assembled in China using Taiwanese parts, or its the other way arround). Consequently China's leaders are not going to war over Taiwan, as they'l end up out of pocket.

All the sabre rattling that China does over Taiwan & the Sprattleys, is just that, its sabra rattling. For domestic consumption only. It's this face saving thing Asians are obsessed about. So the leaders rattle their sabres to show the public that the're doing their job, while their Swiss bank accounts get filled will Taiwanese dosh.

"Rommel's only real accomplishment was to challenge a much superior British force in North Africa. If he had been properly supplied, and he was not, the outcome there would have been much different."

Rommel could have had ten times the tanks, trucks 'n troops & Benzeine & it would of had made no difference at El Alemain, because of Montgomery's 'Devils Garden', which is still the biggest minefield in the world, with 14 million mines. It guarded all the approaches to Egypt proper, the only way to go arround was through the impenetrable soft sand on the south or through the Mediteranian Sea, which was then a Britsh lake with 3 British carrier groups.

Mind you if Rommel was better supplied the desert war could very well have become a stalemate too (he could of planted his own 'Devils Garden' then:)).

BTW, because of the Chineses rattling their sabres & saying they'd invade if Taiwan declares independance (lol:) yeh, right), the Taiwanese president should get up & say 'We have no intention in declaring independence as we are already independent & have been for over 50 years'. Mind you they'd have to up their protection bribes to all the Chines polies. As it give the Chinese an excuse to rattle their sabres (really all the Chinese are doing is running a proction racket on the Taiwanese, a bit like those petty triad wannabes who threaten Chinese restauranters if they don't pay out every week).

Besides 40-50 million communists, what about the rest 1.2 billion non-communist chinese? Is there any reason to hate them all?

<< I would hate to see China and Taiwan officially break up. Instead, I'd like the current status to remain until China breaks out of this Communist rut >>

I think this is interesting. However Germany reunified after East Germany dropped Communism, and they were completely independent. Thus I don't see how complete seperation eliminates the possiblity of future reunification. I don't see how China can be trusted not to ravage and socialize Hong Kong or Taiwan. How they handled Tibet was not amusing.

I say don't trust China any farther than you can throw them, never give back Taiwan unless significant change is made in China, eventually pushing for complete independence, hoping some day China loses their ineffective government and makes real progress possible. China's abuses of human rights, how they handled several areas incl Tibet plus a certain square of student protesters, illustrate that they deserve virtually no trust IMO, let alone being able to manage Taiwan.

<< Bush is a HERO in the region... >>

I found this very amusing also. However for someone like George W. to be able to ride Bush Sr.'s coattails into the presidency must mean that Bush Sr. is pretty respected by a lot of people I guess. I wonder if 10 years from now (assumming George W wins), will anyone say "George W. is a HERO." Probably there will be someone.

there is no such thing as Taiwan tho many of my friendz claim it...

Being ABC, I find this a non-issue. The question I have is how is Hong Kong doing? 2 systems, 1 nation? If it is doing well..I say china annex Taiwan and let there be known, One (Yi) China...

I mean, is there two Germanys, two France...geez

Peace all...
