Poll: Should public schools teach the personal benefits of slavery?

I will be talking to my local district about this, as (on paper) it is their decision. Our county isn't completely full of redneck rubes like so many here so there is some hope they'd tell the governor to fuck off. If they don't, I'll be doing what I can as a father of a student (thankfully for only one more year) to let them know it's a shitty decision, and I'll be using the same language I used in the post above.

If my kids were younger, I'd move despite some very good reasons that make it difficult to do so right now. They are straight up doing what they accuse colleges of doing, radical indoctrination. And that is all fine by them--if the best teachers and concerned citizens leave, they'll just be replaced by crappier teachers without as many options, and rubes moving here (for whatever stupid reason) from other states, and the education system gets worse. Which is a nice side benefit, a poorly-educated white public votes Republican.

The current republican party has me thinking orcs might be real, because witnessing their absolute lack of humanity so up close and personal these last years since Trump has really opened my eyes. They are identical to countless populations throughout history that have proven to be the most evil and horrific and killed and oppressed hundreds of millions over the years.

There is a younger version of me that would think this is absurd, impossible. Not my America, not how I viewed the world in my sheltered childhood. Right?

But to witness, today, how Russians march across Europe on a Genocidal crusade to literally purge their "brothers" from existence. That's how our fellow Americans will view and treat us..... I have no doubt in my mind that all humans have this capacity and all it takes is a certain conditioning. A preparation of the mind, and we will do the most horrific things to one another.

I look at America and I think... damn, in our hubris we DID NOT guard ourselves from falling back into old traps. Into human nature. Terrifying to think past atrocities will soon be our future.

Not going to read this whole thread, but the idea of anyone "benefitting" from something that they cannot personally gain from (make money, improve their lot in life, pass on their chosen skill to their children) is a non-starter.

Without *freedom* to choose, and *freedom* to gain from the sweat of your brow, there is pragmatically no difference between being taught how to smith or farm or woodwork or sitting on your hands staring at a wall.

Once again, weird but also not weird how conservatives effectively fetishize *freedom* then completely undermine the whole point without missing a beat.
