These threads come up like clockwork. Many of us have been through the debate before. It's nice to see some minds changing on the subject, however. I would have never expected an overwhelming majority FOR. DARE has filled people's minds with propaganda and then closed them off to any further consideration. Hopefully by reading this thread, more people will decide to think for themselves.

An informed choice is a good choice.

<< do the chemicals from cigs come from earth? It should be legal!! We have an icon with a guy with a joint! >>

KothY...please refrain from typing anymore. You already proved your incredible cowardice in the thread about Mentally Disabled people, there's really no need to prove your idiocy to us any further. "Pot comes from the earth" is about the stupidest argument for smoking pot I've ever heard. Guess what else comes from the earth? Poison Ivy...would you smoke that? Not to mention that most of the pot out there today is so completely tampered with that it's the farthest thing from the earth.

And by the way, I am for DECRIMINALIZATION of pot. Not legalization. Big difference there...

I'd still like an answer to why it's OK to come home from work and suck down a brew, but not light up a joint? DAMN, I hate alcohol! But I'd love to unwind with a doobie! Pisses me off! :|

So, a bunch of you have said that your for decrminilization (I'm sure I made a typo in that word somewhere, but I can't find it:eek:). What do you think would be a suitable punishment for possesion in that case? A fine?

It's decriminalization. And traditionally that means that it's against the law but the law isn't enforced. As long as you are in posession of a certain amount or less you will not be penilized.

Yes drugs should be legal, but the gov't (democrats and republicans) would never do it, because it that would mean thousands of beaurucratic jobs of sniffing through bank accounts and phone tapping would be lost. Not to mention, they would lose funding from big business who puts up their (yes both republicans AND democrats) propoganda on tv and billboards. Wouldn't surprise me if they got money under the table from the confiscated drugs although it would be hard to prove. For the government, as long as they can profit from it, they will do it, and the drug war is a big money maker for them.

I don't think weed will be legalized for a loooong time. There's still way too many people out there who would never support it. I'm sure there's a big enough portion to shoot that idea down if ever came to be a serious issue.

What's with all this "decriminalization" crap? Have you people no balls? Keep it illegal but don't enforce it? Perhaps that is a better practical solution, and would certainly be better than where we are today -- but i don't see how anyone can seriously believe that.

Personally, and practically, I couldn't care less that marijuana is illegal because I choose not to use it. What I DO care about is the principal of the government trying to run my life. Because of this, it should absolutely be legal (and by this, I don't mean an added law saying "marijuana is legal" (an insult), but the removal of all laws that prevent people from using it).

Many years from now, people are going to look back at our times and our crazy war on drugs, and laugh at how idiotic we are (same with prostitution, gambling, etc). The very idea that someone would tell them what they can and cannot put in their body would be completely revolting.

If we could come up with a test much like a breathalizer test to prove that someone was under the influence of marijuana at that specific point in time, then I would be very FOR decriminalization of it.

But, from what I've learned and read about, there are no current methods that can accurately test for this. THC can show up in drug tests from as far back as a month. Alcohol on the other hand, is only in the system for as long as it takes the body to metabolize it.

My reasoning for this is as follows, if pot was legalized, it should have to follow the same rules as alcohol. You can't drink on the job, you can't go to school drunk, you can't drive drunk, ect. If there was a way to accurately test for this infractions, then I would be fine with decriminalizing it.

For those against pot smoking, how many pot smokers have you seen come home toasted and starting beating on his wife? How many pot smokers have you seen get into a bar fight because they grabbed some other guy's girls ass? How many pot smokers have you heard about that killed a whole family in a head on collision?

The long term affects of smoking it are argueable at best. There is evidence showing that it is a factor in causing "burnout" or lethargy twords life if smoked heavily and for a very long period of time. But still, no one has died of it.

Take alcohol on the other hand. How many college kids have wound up in the hospital getting their stomachs pumped because of alcohol poisoning? How many people have died from alcohol poisoning. Why is it that over 50% of domestic disputes involve alcohol? Why is it that the leading cause of fatal accidents on the highway involves alcohol? Have you ever seen what an alcoholic looks like after 40 years of hard drinking? Their skin turns yellow. They develop alcohol induced hepititis. They start to get ulcers and legions on their skin. Why is that? Because the alcohol as deteriated their liver to the point where it can no longer function.

For those of you who say that us "pot supporters" are dumb, ignorant, and unfounded in our positions, open your eyes and wipe away the propaganda that has been fed to you.

I think the people who say to keep it illegal dont realize who is benefitting from it staying illegal. Organized Crime is making a killing off this stuff. I say make it as legal as beer and cigs, put the dealers(violent people) out of business. We need to learn something from prohibition. And yes I partake on occasion. Look at my icon for gods sake...

Vikaden, this is actually vi_edit, I didn't want to sound like an arsehole or anything, but links to drug paraphernalia don't really fly too well around here.

Just looking out for you :)

Hell Yes!!! And many other ones that are illegal. I could then take care of my own pharmalogicial care without the aid of a doctor and then trying various of drugs that fail me only to be labled a "pharmalogical failure" in terms of treatment.

My brother, who lives in Cally, got one of those permit cards to grow it, smoke it and possess so much of it because of a disc problem in his back. He is in heaven now!!

I don't think it should be legalized. It's bad enough junior high and high schoolers smoke cigarettes, then kids will end up coming high to class all the time. How are they suppossed to learn like that?

Newsflash: Despite being illegal, teenagers are still smoking pot anyways.
