poll: reformat or format?

A re by definition can only happen if it's already been formated; so if it's a new HD it's clearly a format. Standard usage of the term after that calls for format. If somebody just rebuilt their machine this morning and had to do it again I'd accept a "I have to reformat", but if it's been a year and they say "I have to reformat" the term becomes a little harder to stomach.

The way I see it you could use either, but it depends on the situation. You need a choice for "both" in your poll.

"Reformat" would be correct if you are doing it again. Of course, we're talking about Windows here, for the most part, so...

like under DOS , the command is "format a:"

not "reformat a:"
