It's a sport that's physically demanding and mentally demanding. I've been playing since I was 6.

Bashing tennis is silly, and more than likely means you haven't played it.
While is it really the most entertaining sport/greatest sport/end all sport? No, not really. Does it require pretty good physical conditioning and mental discilpine, yea, it does.
btw: i don't get the arod reference. saying baseball is less intense then tennis? i wouldn't go there.
I find people in america bash the sports that are difficult to follow. I guess a little yellow ball being hit around a court is difficult to follow. Same reason hockey is boring, since they can't see the puck moving accross the ice. In baseball and football, ball movement is a bit spaced out so it's easier to follow. Basketball, i guess isn't too easy, but isn't too difficult.

Another reason why I think tennis is boring to people on tv is because of the angle. To me, that high baseline camera angle makes the game seem really slow. People see long rallies and think "Man, they're just dinking it back and forth." I think if you could show another angle, such as from a sideline, or lower on the baseline, people can see just how hard and how much spin the players put those balls.
But like most people have said, I think you have to play the game too to truly appreciate it. Some of the shots the pros hit are just amazing to me, but they make it look so easy on tv. I had to play someone once who regularly hit 100+ mph first serves, and it is frightening. I can't imagine watching a 150+ Roddick serve blow by me...
