POLL: period space or period space space?

When you end a sentence, do you period space or period space space. It is natural to period space space but I see people at work and all over with just one space after a period and it drives me nuts for some reason.

2 spaces: the old style, previously taught in school, and was required to get old fonts to read well.

1 space: now that we have variable width fonts, the 2 space rule is antiquated. One space looks better. You no longer need, nor should you use 2 spaces.

I use two spaces out of habit though.

i think most ppl learn at the age of maybe 5 or 6 that its 1 space after a comma and 2 spaces after a period.

It would be next to impossible to break me of the 2-space habit, other than to have Office autocorrect 2 to 1.

The only reason you should even have a double space at the end of your sentences is if you're using a typewriter (or perhaps if you like the style and are using a monospaced font, like courier). The reason for this is typewriters, being monospaced, produced better looking, more readable type when there were two spaces after a sentence. Modern (non-monospaced) fonts have automatic spacing for each character that accounts for this, and a double space following a period leaves too large a space for typography standards.

._ _ looks MUCH nicer and cleaner. it's way easier to read.

bullshit. one space looks horrible and confusing; you'd have to think about whether the an abbreviation ends the sentence or not.
